Runway Monday: Shoes First! (PR 12:7)

In this week’s episode of Lifetime’s Project Runway, the designers were allowed special access to Marie Claire magazine’s shoe closet. They each chose a pair of shoes to use as the basis for a new look. I went into the Becks doll closet and chose these shoes to inspire my design.

For my model, I selected Maia. I knew she’d look great in a plaid I’ve been saving for a long time from a Harumika kit.

However, unlike the PR designers who used red plaid, I didn’t want my design to evoke a holiday look. I wanted it to be a summer-into-fall outfit that could be worn to an afternoon business event.

The belt is from Mattel.

I hope you enjoyed this week’s look. See you next time on the runway!

  1. I’ve been dying to see what shoes you chose!! LOVE them!! The outfit is awesome. Not Christmasy at all. Quite summery, in fact.

    1. Thanks very much, Gary! Last year when my final collection was black and white and red, I forgot to use these shoes and the other pair Mark sent, both of which would have fit perfectly into those looks. I’ve been hoping to rectify my mistake by using them this season.

  2. I loved the plaid top and the striped skirt. I just didn’t like them together. But I’ve been a curmudgeon all of last week and I even forgot to watch P.R. last Thursday. Now I’ll catch the edited version leading into Thursday’s show. Guess it was a case of heat frustration.

    1. I’d never actually wear stripes and plaid together–although I think that’s actually often a fashion choice of curmudgeons everywhere.

Hope this week is better and cooler for you.

    1. The most dazzling shoes are!

As if I know–I’ve worn little other than tennis shoes (sneakers? trainers?) in over two decades.
