From my oldest to my newest:
and the many between them, happy fiftieth birthday to Barbie! You’re a toy, you’re an icon, you’re a collector’s dream, and you still have people arguing about you after all these years, which means you’ve done something right. Here’s to the next fifty.
PJ! I see PJ! Hello PJ!!! Okay, confession, many months ago I was thinking of getting you GWTW curtain Barbie … so glad I didn’t!
You know, there is actually a Went With The Wind Barbie from Carol Burnett’s show–she has the curtain rod.
The one you see here in green velvet is the actual Barbie Scarlett. There are two Barbie Scarletts in this group. One of them I’ve posted on LJ before; the other I haven’t. Eventually, all of these dolls will get their own LJ spotlight.
Okay, I just saw the Went With The Wind doll in Wal-Mart. It’s a Carol Burnett doll in the green velvet with the curtain rod! Hilarious.
Age cannot wither her, nor raffia stale her infinite variety. : )
Poetry in plastic.
Naturally, I recognized Dana Scully Barbie right off the bat, but am dismayed that Lieutenant Barbie from the Starship Enterprise is absent from your collection– perhaps she’s beamed down to explore strange new worlds….
She’s still living with you. Eventually, I’m sure I’ll find her twin and move her into the Barbie Dream Attic.
She’s wearing well (and wearing clothes well!).
Happy Birthday, Barbie! (It was a good year that one, *cough*).
Thank goodness neither of us was around to remember that year. 😉
How many do you have?
Are you still buying them once in a while?
Yes, I’m still buying them. I can’t stop myself. Plus people give me new and old ones.
If I count all of them–not just Barbies, but her relatives and friends, the Kens and his relatives and friends, and the top models, I’m sure there are more than two hundred.
Would you like my two Harley Barbies? They’ve both been removed from the box, so while they are collectible they’re not big-money collectible, and I’d really like them to go where they are cherished.
OMG, I would love them! I have no Harley Barbies, except a Christmas ornament.
What could I contribute to your Home on Wheels in return? I know you’re always needing things. Even if it’s a gift certificate to one of the places you buy things to keep the motorcycles or the motor home in good repair, just say the word. =)
I’ve answered this by email. 🙂
