The Secrets of Tim

My friend and writing partner, Timothy J. Lambert, is not only a gifted writer but also sings and plays the violin, among other instruments, plus he is skilled at growing plants and flowers, and he has a way of making dogs listen to him. Many Geminis seem to receive an abundance of talents; disgusting, isn’t it?

But wait. That’s not all.

This Southern thing

My friend James finds it endearing when I say, “I might could do that.”

Recently, Tim brought to my attention that I say, “Get your picture made,” or “making your picture,” instead of “taken” and “taking.”

Very often, I have to ask my writing partners (origins Maine, Pennsylvania, and California) if phrases I use are Southern. Fortunately, since the TJB characters are Midwestern, I have many resources to draw from, including Tom, who’s from Minnesota.

But there’s one phrase that I’ve heard only within my family, and I wonder if it’s Southern or just us. “Take up the ice,” which means “put the ice in glasses for tea or water before a meal.” Anyone else heard or used this phrase?

Going Postal

It’s happy mail day! Mail from Lisa in Iowa, Todd in Wisconsin, George in Ohio, Greg in New Orleans…all full of wonderful comments about THREE FORTUNES, wishes for a happy Halloween, or tasty treats… And no stinky fish treats, heh.

Some days are diamonds. (Who said that? John Denver?)

Oh, P.S. I just remembered. Lisa, I, too, had no idea what a MILF is, so now you know who wrote it. I know now, but I’ll let Tim tell you. =)

The Spirit of New Orleans

I’ve been fascinated by author Greg Herren’s posts about his return to New Orleans and the things he’s seeing and doing there. Yesterday, we got a Kensington catalog and Greg’s new mystery, MARDI GRAS MAMBO, which is coming out in March, has an enticing cover. I can’t find it online so I’ve asked for a .jpg from the publisher which I’ll post when I get it.

The truly amazing thing is that in the midst of helping other New Orleans friends, moving his stuff between apartments, and managing his busy schedule as a writer and editor, Greg generously shared his good fortune with Tim and me. Although you can’t see it in the picture below, those are Bar-B-Q Fritos that were just delivered to us from Greg today because he finally located a New Orleans source.

Is he a class act or what? Thank you, Greg.
