Tonight, Lynne came over for a while. She, Tim, Tom, and I played cards. I lost both games, despite winning the final hand in the second game. I’m pretty sure they all cheated.
Before Lynne came over, she went to see a production of Beauty and the Beast. Which made me realize that it’s time to indulge you once again with some costumery.
Asha (an African American friend of Barbie from the mid 1990s) and the Prince. The Prince doll’s hair was originally pulled back, but the rubber band deteriorated.
The Beast (played by an original Ken) and a bubble-cut Barbie from the early 1960s.
The Prince (a second doll–I think I own three Beast dolls) and Belle (they say Belle is a Barbie, but I see this doll as having her own identity).
Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Disney movie, bar none. I have seen the stage production three times (including the world premier performance at Theatre Under the Stars in Houston, a Christmas gift for Marika), and it moves me to tears every time.
Lynne offered me a ticket last night, but I’m just not up for going out right now. It was interesting to hear her critique–she said the music was wonderful and performed well, so she enjoyed it. But there were lots of little distracting glitches with lighting, costumes, and set design. It was the third of five performances, so that surprised me.
It was the best gift I ever got. We had tickets opening night. Mike made sure we were on the plane and didn’t pull us when he should have … and the performance was perfect and I felt like I was 5 years old. It was magic.
I love the ipod gift, and I use it more — but B& The Beast win for sentiment.
That bubble-cut! This made me track down your other vintage dolls. She’s beautiful. : )
Haha, those are great!
Is it wrong that I think the Ken-as-Beast doll is kinda sexy? LOL
Only if it’s wrong that I said this is hot!
Oh my. My, MY, MY! (Quick! Someone fetch my salts!) How on earth did I ever miss that hot piece of plastic the first time around?!
It disturbs me that you admit you don’t read every word I write on here. I must think of a good punishment.
But it’s not my fault! You know how demanding a master’s program can be! HAVE MERCY!
You make a good point, and I’m not without compassion.
I’ll get back to you.
You know, I actually almost bought one of the Billy dolls when they were popular. And I’ve be eyeing one of the Tom Of Finland dolls.
And in case you haven’t seen this ….

I love the video, Rob, thanks!
