Tale as old as time

Tonight, Lynne came over for a while. She, Tim, Tom, and I played cards. I lost both games, despite winning the final hand in the second game. I’m pretty sure they all cheated.

Before Lynne came over, she went to see a production of Beauty and the Beast. Which made me realize that it’s time to indulge you once again with some costumery.

Asha (an African American friend of Barbie from the mid 1990s) and the Prince. The Prince doll’s hair was originally pulled back, but the rubber band deteriorated.

The Beast (played by an original Ken) and a bubble-cut Barbie from the early 1960s.

The Prince (a second doll–I think I own three Beast dolls) and Belle (they say Belle is a Barbie, but I see this doll as having her own identity).

  1. Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Disney movie, bar none. I have seen the stage production three times (including the world premier performance at Theatre Under the Stars in Houston, a Christmas gift for Marika), and it moves me to tears every time.

    1. Lynne offered me a ticket last night, but I’m just not up for going out right now. It was interesting to hear her critique–she said the music was wonderful and performed well, so she enjoyed it. But there were lots of little distracting glitches with lighting, costumes, and set design. It was the third of five performances, so that surprised me.

    2. It was the best gift I ever got. We had tickets opening night. Mike made sure we were on the plane and didn’t pull us when he should have … and the performance was perfect and I felt like I was 5 years old. It was magic.

I love the ipod gift, and I use it more — but B& The Beast win for sentiment.
