one of the best hounds of them all

Tim posted this to his Instagram account today.

My comment:

I thought I’d share a few of those photos. I know how many of you have lost your own best companions. It’s a sad group to be part of, but the endings can never be as powerful as the time we get to share with our beloved dogs, cats, and other animal friends.

Pixie, Christmas 2011

Pixie’s first bath summer of 2009. She never became a fan.
David with Rex, Tim with Margot, Pixie, and Guinness.
Rex, Pixie, and Calvin in some dog dance.
Early photo of Pixie with a Christmas toy from Marika.
Sugar tolerated other dogs, but Sugar and Pixie were best friends and loving sisters at first sight. This is one of Lindsey’s photos of them.
Pixie adored big brother Rex.
She welcomed her sister Penny, who also came to Tim as a Scout’s Honor foster, and it was clear they, too, were meant to be together.
Pixie with Uncle Jim.
Calvin sneaking away, but Pixie is joined by Guinness, Penny, McGrady, and Margot here.
Baby Hanley always loved being around Pixie and Rex. She called her “Pishie.”
One of my favorite photos of Tim with Pixie and Penny.
Pixie was always a great ambassador to all the foster dogs. Here she’s with Esther.
Although Pixie isn’t in this photo, Margot (left) and Guinness (sidewalk) are with Minute, Sparky, and Paco here. Pixie was always welcoming and kind to Lynne’s pack.
Another favorite. Tim must be eating something while Pixie, Guinness, Penny, and Rex watch. Even Margot is peeking in from the dining room.
Here, Penny and Pixie are joined by Lynne’s granddog, Ruby. (Poor Pollock was completely scared of Ruby, but Pixie knew Ruby’s a sweetheart.)
Pixie playing with her new little brother Pollock.
Christmas 2016 at Houndstooth Hall with the whole crew (I’m holding a foster dog along with Jack), Tom has Delta and Anime, Penny, Pixie, and Pollock (not so little anymore!) are with Tim, and Debby has Stewie and Harley.
After the flood, Christmas 2017 with Tom and Jack, I’ve got Anime and Delta, Debby has Stewie and Harley, and Tim’s holding Pixie, Penny, and Pollock.
Last Christmas at the Hall with Tim, Pollock, and Pixie, Debby has Stewie, I have Delta and Anime, and Tom has Eva and Jack.
Pollock and Pixie a few days back. Both of them were content to wander the backyard and even to lie on the scorched grass.
Run free, sweet Pixie. I hope that along with all your friends across the bridge, you’re still mesmerized by every squirrel you see. They were always safe from you, because you never realized when they moved on from the first tree where you spotted them. It was just one of a thousand things I’ll remember and love about you.

    1. When I was looking for posts about her on my blog, I found a comment by you from way back when she was a youngster. We’ve traveled this road together, and I remember when your little ones left, too. It’s always so hard.

Thank you for your kind words always.
