I’m not sure about german, but I’m referring english to french, with a curiously bad butchering of words.

The “un” indefinite article is like English’s (for lack of a better expression) genderless “a” as in “a wind” or “le vent” for “the wind.”
The french did this to objects like desks and chairs, probably to simplify the latin. Somehow they can be linguistically grouped in arbitrary categories my high schools’ french classes loved calling genders. Once I got over that nonsense and found that these weird exceptions were because words sound better or are easier to pronounce, french became a little easier than imaging an office furniture orgy just to get right all of the mon, ma, mes, ton, ta, tes, son, sa, ses, un, un, des, le, la, les, etc.
So, tragically unwind fell into un wind as, just as tragically, after that 2019 7.1 earthquake, font, fault and front all became just font no matter how hard I paused to really concentrate to get the correct word out regardless of context!
Actually, the font quagmire isn’t so bad anymore, but I’m finding more other words have fallen away from me the same way, and that’s starting to take more effort to correct myself when the words just won’t map properly. If nothing else, this will drive the AI large language models nuts.
