Holding on with open hands

Our group’s first transport of the new year was on Friday. As usual, it was my pleasure to shoot photos for their social media sites.

I was trying to find a favorite among them, never easy because I think all the dogs and cats are beautiful and the volunteers extraordinary. But this one, of Patti and one of her foster pups, Angel, shows the profound relationship between a foster parent and a foster dog. You welcome these animals into your home, never knowing what history they bring but willing to believe in them. You fulfill your promise to teach them what you can, to make them feel safe, to take good care of them, to give them the same unselfish love they are able to give. And you do this knowing you will have to say goodbye so they can go to their forever homes.

It’s a beautiful relationship of helping a dog become a great companion.

    1. I think at last count, between us, Tim, Tom, and I have had 23 fosters come through The Compound. Tim readily admits that he is a “foster failure” because three of those 23 are his dogs now. I don’t call that being a failure, but a father. And I cried with joy about all three adoptions.
