LJ Runway Monday: Finale, Part 2 (PR 8:14)

The final episode of Season 8 of Lifetime’s Project Runway aired last week, with three designers showing at Fashion Week and the winner announced. Five of five people at The Compound disagreed with the outcome.

Hopefully those of you who’ve stuck with my dolls throughout this season won’t be as disappointed by my results. I was a little miffed during Episode 10, the “make your own fabric” challenge, because that had been my plan all along for my final collection.

First, I painted sixteen 9×18 pieces of unbleached muslin:

I further challenged myself by deciding that I couldn’t cut the fabric. I could sew it, but after showing the collection, I wanted to be able to remove the designs from my models, take out all the stitching, and once again have intact paintings. I’m putting my twelve (plus one–the Heidi challenge) looks behind a cut because there are a lot of photos.

  1. WOW! That’s all I can say. That was amazing. I even went through and watched the video as well.
You would have kicked all of their butts for Fashion Week. I can’t wait for next season already!!!!!

      1. Well I’m just being honest. I sent the video over to my friend Anna as well who loved it. I had been sending over pictures of your collections all season. Keep up the great work.

  2. Spoiler info read at your own risk

Becks! I love the vivid colors – your imagination and creativity shows through in each and everyone of these designs. You are innovative and offer a brand new perspective in fashion.

Therefore I must declare Tim this year’s winner of LJ Runway.

  3. Hat’s off to you, Becky, this is wonderful… it all comes to this, it’s like the collection you were made for. It’s really something else, something apart, so amazing. Thank you for making my morning brighter!

Maggie and Abby are a red carpet battle. I can’t decide which is the more stunning. Seriously, WHOA!

    1. Thank you very much, Mark. And thank you for the shoes! You don’t really get to see them in these photos, but they get their own shot in the slide show.

What was most fun was coming up with thirteen different looks without cutting the fabric. On the plus side: no pants!

Still trying to decide if I’m retired now.

  4. WOW, Becky!!! All of them are amazing. I started out picking my favorites, but quickly stopped when I realized that was impossible!!! because of scheduling witht he new job, I didn’t see many of this season’s episodes, but I can’t imagine any of the designers being as creative as you have been.

    1. Thank you very much, Gary!

Because of the timing of the show, ten of the designers had to show at Fashion Week so no one would know who the top three would be. TEN. I looked at all their collections, and frankly, I believe several of them were better than the season’s winner. It was such a good season, I thought, and the ending was a letdown.

  5. wrapped then unwrapped

If they can be made back into the paintings as you say, would it be possible to take all your photos, make the background transparent and superimpose them on images of the paintings to make the fabric as the backdrop? I’m just curious.

Anyway, I like a lot of these 🙂
