Who could top the Edith Head collection?

Mattel and little girls’ moms, that’s who. Since Barbie celebrated her fiftieth birthday this year, I thought I’d bring out some of my vintage fashion for Mark G. Harris. In honor of your birthday, Mark, though you are much younger than Barbie, my Twelve Top Models want to remind you that being a classic has nothing to do with age. Poise, nerve, style, maybe a dry martini, and you’re set.

I’m putting photos of each outfit behind the cut, but anyone who wants to read more about the clothes–all of them are from the 1960s–can see descriptions on my public Flickr set.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARK G. HARRIS!

    1. When I had all these clothes out, I remembered why playing Barbies was SO MUCH FUN when I was a kid. I have a lot more vintage clothes, and really, I just wished some other kids would come over and we could dress and redress dolls all day. Much more fun than cooking, cleaning, picking up dog poop, and all those other grown-up things I do with my days.

    1. Eh, all I had to do was sew up some ripped seams, replace a snap or two, iron the clothes, and photograph them. Some other seamstresses and Mattel did all the hard work. Still, thanks!

  1. Becky, you are a stitch-tease! Showing us this while the fate of our favorite online series, Project LJ, faces an uncertain future. (I’ve heard the network wants to replace it with “So You Think You Can Tweet?”)

  2. “Twelve Tah-op Models!” (sung like 5 golden rings)

Becky, whoa. I guess I’ll get around to thanking you for the birthday wishes, but I can’t guarantee it because I’m too busy being stunned by your collection. You’ve got Zocko (or however it’s spelled)! And a silk sheath! Evening Gala! Do you have Zocko’s earrings, or the turquoise hostess pants that accompany Evening Gala?

Hey, that final celadon dress… damn. Perfectly proportioned. I bet that was a favorite of yours back in the day?

    1. I only have one of the earrings. =( I could buy the reproductions, but I want my earring! Maybe I’ll find it stuck inside some clothes or something. Maybe a purse! I have lots of vintage purses.

Yep, I think these are the pants on Midge:

Do you mean the last dress? (I don’t know what celadon is.) If so, that dress came to me much later, from someone else’s Barbie collection. I sure do love it now, though!
