Totally random thoughts

For all those who have berated me over the years because I never saw The Princess Bride, you can now relax. I watched it with The Brides, Tim, and Tom when Mark was here. Yes, I liked it. No, I can’t quote large chunks of it yet. But at least I’ve seen it.

Speaking of quoting large chunks of movie dialogue, Tim and I rented Zoolander last night so I could see it (he’d seen it already). Now I know what people are talking about when they quote from it while talking about Runway Monday.

Last March, among my birthday gifts, was a book from The Brides, A Guide to Quality, Taste & Style, written by Tim Gunn with Kate Moloney. Now that I’ve finally had time to read it, I see that I should have read it BEFORE I embarked on Runway Monday. I’m glad Tim Gunn isn’t one of the judges.

  1. totally random responses…

    I ADORE The Princess Bride!
(I quote from it, often… too often, probably.)
    😀

I’ve yet to see Zoolander… and I frequently thank the heavens that Tim Gunn is not a food critic or an editor of food writing.

I find him terribly amusing, however! I just wouldn’t want to work for (or with!) him…

    O.o

Zoolander was silly, but funny–with tons of celebrity cameos, which I always enjoy.

I don’t want Tim Gunn to ever look inside my closet. I’d end up with two articles of clothing left–both coats.

        I enjoy celeb cameos, too!
        I’ll have to watch Zoolander

Were Tim Gunn to go through your closet… you might only have two coats, left… but you would put odds & ends together to create fabulously matching, themed pairs of shoes to accessorize your coats, beautifully ~ and They. Would. Be. Stunning!
        ;^)

I dub thee the Macgyver of shoe design!!

        😀

All I need is a paperclip and some dilithium crystals–wait, I think I’m getting my shows mixed up.

  2. There are only two quotes you need to be Princess Bride Cool and they happen to be fairly useful:

    “Have fun storming the castle!”
    and
    “As you wish.”

    1. I beg to differ … there is also

“You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”

“Let me explain… No, there is too much. Let me sum up.”

“Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”

And of course, there’s this one, the one that Greg and I use most often

” Bow to the Queen of Slime, the Queen of Filth, the Queen of Putrescence. Boo. Boo. “

We love the Queen of Putrescence

      1. “Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”

I tried for years to use this one– it just doesn’t fit well in normal conversation! But anytime a loved one is being pissy about anything– “As you wish.” Anytime anyone is leaving to go anywhere– “Have fun storming the castle.” My most-beloved former boss got that anytime she was headed down to our parent paper. She and I just thought that was hirarious.

    2. It’s a very fun movie. I don’t know why I never saw it until now. I think I always got it mixed up with Willow. For all I know, Willow‘s a good movie, too, but since it seemed to be on HBO or Showtime whenever I wanted to watch a movie, I developed an unnatural dislike for it and refused to watch it.

      1. P.S. The same goes for two other movies that seemed to be always on whenever I watched television. The one in which a truck is trying to murder Dennis Weaver, and the one in which Michelle Pfeiffer keeps turning into a hawk.

      2. I’ve watched “Willow” a number of times and all I ever remember is hot Val Kilmer hanging in a cage at the crossroads. I mix up “Willow” with “Time Bandits.”

        1. Here’s how to tell the difference between the two:

“Willow” – Val Kilmer hanging in a cage at the crossroads. He was Johnny Depp before Johnny Depp was Johnny Depp.

“Time Bandits” – Highly informative film that teaches you never to put pure evil in the microwave.

    3. There’s also:

“We are men of action, lies do not become us.”

“She is alive, or was an hour ago. If she is otherwise when I find her I shall be very put out.”

“My brains, his steel, and your strength against sixty men, and you think a little head jiggle is supposed to make me happy? Hmm?”

      And, one of my favourites:

“Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something…”

        1. Re: There’s also:

Of those – I’ve seen Gone With the Wind enough to be able to quote from it…

The rest would require some serious need for brush-up on my part…!

          😀

  3. it is about time!!!! “Wuv. True Wuv!”

    That’s one you can use.

Now you NEED to see Willow, and maybe Time Bandits. But for sure Willow… I will gladly watch either with you any time…

    1. Hey–I well remember what happens if I refuse to watch a movie you want me to see. You, your sister, and her roomie hold me captive without a car in Plano, Texas, where I do NOT know my way around.

I call it the Beaches Treatment.
