Pride Month

It’s Pride Month, that time of year when I try to avoid blogs that bemoan the inclusiveness of Pride parades because the media tends to focus on the “outrageous,” even though the media does that during any event, happy or sad.

I, personally, celebrate it all: the leather men, the drag queens, the boys with their glitter-dusted bodies in square cuts, the politicians, the church floats, PFLAG, the AIDS organizations, the sponsors tossing freebies to advertise their products, the bands, the cheerleaders, the dykes on bikes, the cops on horseback, the transgendered, even the spectators who drink too much and trash the streets and block my view or snatch my beads out of the air in front of me. Houston’s parade will be this weekend, and because of my annoying back, I’m already fretting over the logistics of getting there and figuring out how to sit and manage to see and photograph everything.

In honor of the month, let’s check out some handsome men visiting an art gallery.

  1. I like the green-shirted Ken– is he a celebrity doll? His facial features seem more specific than usual. And the Ken in the black shirt is my favorite head-mold they used. I forget what year he debuted (he had brown hair, early 70s, I think)… I used to know!

Harley-Davidson Ken isn’t an art fan, eh?

    1. In the green shirt: That’s actually Dylan, from 90210, but with facial hair painted on and hair repainted black.

Top picture, blue striped shirt with the collar: That’s 90210’s Brandon, with painted hair.

If I ended up with several versions of a doll, I altered them, since I knew I was never selling them.

The Ken in the blue-striped knit shirt is Totally Hair Ken from 1991.

Regarding the art: In the top photo, that’s one of my father’s. The two paintings on the easels are Tim’s. And you can just see a sliver of one of Tim’s paintings in the upper left of the last photo.

      1. I TOTALLY have the 90210 Dylan! He’s in his box on my top shelf right this very moment!

I think he’d like to be at the gallery more.

      2. Before I even read the comments I thought the first one was Brandon, but couldn’t figure out what was different about him. Alan gave me Brandon and Dylan, but I haven’t taken them out of the boxes.

  2. Green shirt Ken is kinda hot with the beard — however I do question the fashion choices of vest wearing Ken … isn’t the Vest only thing out?

We’ll know on July 16th — new project runway

    1. Catch the fever of Project Runway, get a sewing machine, and create all new and current outfits for my Kens!

      You know you want to.

          1. Boo, hiss, boo reminds me that I FINALLY saw Dangerous Liaisons this past weekend. I see Fatal Attraction Glenn has disappeared from your user pic collection. Perhaps you should add back Dangerous Liaisons Glenn.

  3. Ack! 13 comments! Must respond!~

We will totally rig something up for super comfortable parade watching this year. You can count on your three favorite lesbians to pull that off for you. 😉

    1. I should have remembered that all I need to do is put myself in the care of Kathy, Rhonda, and Lindsey, and everything will be okay.

    1. Whenever I post doll photos now, I always think of you. Waving Ken looks like he’s thinking, “Oh, yeah. There he is.” And Tom Cruise-looking Ken is clueless.

      1. I have to admit it made my day to find some doll photos posted this morning and such hunky guys made it all the better. I might have to get my bionic dolls Jaime and Steve out one of these days to make some pics of their own. 🙂
