  1. I have to say that while I like Big B, I love Die Fledermaus it was one of the few operas I was interested in — and that was because my Mom used to call me Fledermaus — so maybe that makes me a Strauss girl … but hey, I always like it when the Germanic make good musically – Strauss, Mozart, Beethoven, Falco, Nena… all good to me.

      1. He’s faking it Becky, because he knows his note could not be so clever as to reference Falco AND Nena. He was going to do a Rock me Amadeus joke, and I beat him to it. This “I’m button blind” thing is a ruse! He is trying to steal my thunder!

Cue up Ride of the Valkryies !!!

                    1. of course not it’s youtube…

However I can’t promise that any Heino won’t cause blindness, they’re pretty gruesome. I think I have a new weapon …

  2. I own the DVD. That’s a terrific movie! Like others have said, in his actions and attitude, Beethoven was probably the first punk rocker because he did what he wanted and thumbed his nose at society. I’m not saying I think everything he did was exactly nice, but admire those who rebel if sometimes it’s only for the sake of rebelling. Our society needs our rebels. We’re also so lucky to have his beautiful music.

    1. I don’t remember at what point Tim said last night, as we were watching the movie, “Beethoven was a rock star.”

We are lucky to have his music.

  3. Mmm, brilliant film – especially the portrayal of the devastation of deafness on a musician.

When I was learning to play the piano as a child, when it came to learn a new piece by Beethoven, my music teacher would always say, “you’ll like this one . . . it’s LOUD” !!

And I’m always moved by his “supposed” last words . . . “I shall hear in Heaven”.
