More Reading is HOT!

Johnnie, who I know from Houston’s defunct bookstore Crossroads and who now pimps books at that FABULOUS Galleria Borders that I once featured on here, just posted this photo and list of books he’s read so far this year. I almost missed seeing a certain red-spined book near the middle of the pile (no, NOT Rue McClanahan, two up from her). It reminded me of the time I spotted SOMEONE LIKE YOU in Joe.My.God.’s oven.

    1. Be careful, or I’ll send Stuart a onesie with that intensely disliked cover of THREE FORTUNES reproduced on it.

In fact, I might have to send him a onesie anyway, just because he always gives me the gift of a smile. What size is he wearing these days?

      1. I could send you a picture of him, wearing the onesie … and “reading” an LGBT-themed book. Although, unless our copy of Oscar Wilde’s fairy tales counts, I don’t think we have anything that’s age-appropriate!

He wears size 3-6 months, by the way; but 6 months (or 6-9 months) will probably see more use at this point.

  1. I should post a pic of the stack of books I can see from here. but it would look like serious “suck up” since most of them were written in part by a certain Aries woman- although there is a Herren in there too. That certain red-spined book is in the stack and yes I have read every one of them (except the extra copy of “It had to be You” that I should pass on to someone who would enjoy reading it. I only read ONE copy of IHTBY haha.

  2. Nothing hotter than reading, and it’s about time people started talking about it. I can remember when people would rue the day before they’d admit to enjoying peters so much.

    (Whizz-bang! Puns-a-flying!)

    1. 3 Fortunes in on my list, as well. It had initially been a spring break read plan, but I didn’t get to the eye dotor in time and the print in rather small for my ancient eyes. I’ll finish SLY tonight.

    1. I really didn’t get the ending. It was so ambigious and confusing, but I loved the rest of the book so much that I was willing to ignore the weird ending.

And, I encourage everyone to check out Elizabeth Peters. They’re really fun books. Amelia Peabody is such a fantastic character. Just go slowly with them. I read too many in a row and had to take a break because I got a little burned out on them.

      1. A few of us had an online discussion about the end of the book. After Grimsley’s master class, when I took him my books to sign, I told him that.

Immediately, he said, “Whether he was dead or alive?” When I said yes, I’ll paraphrase as best I can remember the ensuing comments:

Grimsley: I couldn’t bear to think of him dead.
Becky: Oh, me either! So he’s alive.
        Grimsley: Of course.
Becky: Thank goodness. You’ve made me very happy!
Grimsley: Just not in THIS world.
        Becky: Oh? Uh… So…
        Grimsley: It was a resurrection.
Becky: So he was dead but now he’s alive. But in some other…
Grimsley: I think they would have had to go somewhere else together, the two of them.
        Becky: But…not in this world?
Grimsley: (Small smile) Maybe they went up north together.

SO, basically, he TOYED with me! I STILL don’t know if he was alive or dead or if they were really together and running away. And somehow, that only made me like Jim Grimsley more, that sly thing.

        1. I thought resurrection, but that just seemed so out of left field to me, but that was the only thing that made sense to me. So I’ll just keep imagining that they ran away together.
