The answers

Here are the answers to the movie poster challenge and the pathetic lengths I went to to get a couple of them.

1. Alien–took me a while because I couldn’t stop thinking of and trying horror movie titles
2. Bridget Jones’s Diary–easy
3. Edward Scissorhands–easy
4. ET–believe it or not, this took me a while even though I KEPT THINKING about ET and “phone home,” but for some reason, I thought that was too easy
5. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom–took FOREVER.
6. Jaws–easy
7. The Wizard of Oz–easy
8. Piranha–I guessed this right off, but I kept thinking I was wrong because I can’t spell “piranha” so it kept not working
9. Reservoir Dogs–this one drove me nuts, because I never saw the movie. To get to it, I went to google images and started putting in famous directors whose movies I hadn’t already spotted in this challenge. When I tried Quentin Tarantino, I got a movie poster for Reservoir Dogs that looked similar to this picture, so I tried it and it worked. Such a good use of my time, huh?
10. Saturday Night Fever–easy
11. The Birds–took me a while to stop seeing airplanes on this one
12. The Hunt for Red October–knew the movie, couldn’t remember the title, couldn’t get “Crimson Tide” out of my head, then cheated by looking up Sean Connery on IMDB.com to get the right title
13. The Shining–easy
14. Terminator–I confess, this made no sense to me (never saw any Terminator movies) so I just started putting in movie titles that hadn’t been used yet until one was right
15. The Usual Suspects–easy
16. Spinal Tap–easy
17. Titanic–easy
18. American Beauty–easy
19. The Spy Who Loved Me–knew it was one of those James Bond movies with the villain with the teeth, put “James Bond” and “Jaws” into google until I got this title and MOONRAKER, tried this one first and it worked
20. Star Wars–easy

I’d love to give credit to the blog I found this on, but for some reason, the link to it isn’t working right now. Sorry, person I found via FARB’s blog.

And this is great–I turned on my iTunes just before I sent this post so I’d have something to fill in my “music” blank and got a certain movie’s theme song…

  1. #5 nearly did me in. I kept thinking Peter Pan or Pirates of the Carribean. And #11 was really hard too. I had almost given up when all of a sudden I thought, “Hey…are those birds?” #1 tripped me up as well. I kept thinking murder/horror film titles too.

  2. I got to 18 and then noticed you had put up the answers — I didn’t get Piranha (I don’t think I’ve even heard of that one, though it’ll go on Netflix now), and I still don’t get Terminator. But I had a blast working these out!! THANKS!

    1. Have you seen Terminator and still don’t get it? Because that was just dumb luck for me on that one, sort of the way answering, “Paris,” “Kennedy,” or “Hitler” in the original Trivial Pursuit somehow usually works out.

  3. When Lindsey got home, I found that she knew the three titles I didn’t have. Here’s my breakdown:

    1. Alien–Also took me a while, because I kept thinking about a defibrillator. Then I realized the hole punch was coming OUT of the chest.
    2. Bridget Jones’s Diary–Took me a while, becuase I couldn’t real all the Post-Its. The chocolate one gave it away.
    3. Edward Scissorhands–Easy
    4. ET–Easy
    5. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom–Got this one fairly quickly. Once I realized it was a bridge, the hat and “alligators” gave it away for me
    6. Jaws–I tried “Free Willy” first, until I realize the stapler was a bit more menacing.
    7. The Wizard of Oz–Easy
    8. Piranha–I did not guess this one. Never heard of it.
    9. Reservoir Dogs–I did not guess this one. Never saw the movie and didn’t get the color clues.
    10. Saturday Night Fever–Took me a bit. I didn’t see “dance floor” until I noticed the guy wasn’t pointing…he was dancing.
    11. The Birds–Yep. I also saw a bunch of planes too, and “Pearl Harbor” wasn’t working.
    12. The Hunt for Red October–I had to look at this one for a bit before I thought…SUBMARINE!
    13. The Shining–Easy
    14. Terminator–I didn’t get this one. I tried to think of every movie I knew in which someone was run over by a steamroller. Missed this one.
    15. The Usual Suspects–Easy
    16. Spinal Tap–VERY easy. One of my favorite films. BTW, next time you pass Rockin’ Robin Guitars, notice that their marquee now says “OUR STUFF GOES UP TO ELEVEN.” Hee!
    17. Titanic–OK, I kept seeing a guy sitting on the edge of a building. Once I saw a ship, I realized what the paper wad was.
    18. American Beauty–Very easy.
    19. The Spy Who Loved Me–Funny thing here. “Moonraker” works as an answer for this one, because that’s what I filled in. When I told Lindsey my answer, I told her that Jaws was in “The Spy Who Loved Me” as well. Took me a bit to get this one, because my first guess was “Jaws.”
    20. Star Wars–Easy

    1. Damn. That’s a lot easier than googling random directors, I must say. I guess if I’d seen the movie, it might have helped. Can you by any chance explain the Terminator one?

    2. well aren’t you the smart one! 😛

That one was tough for me, and I love that movie…

I also didn’t get Terminator. I kept thinking, Throw Momma From
the Train or any movies where someone was run over, but not Terminator.

Sadly, I didn’t get Bridget Jones either. I kept thinking, why is the date book plugged in?

      I never saw Spinal Tap.

      This was fun and tough.

  4. in Terminator, the terminator gets shot/run over/blown up endlessly. There is one scene where an 18-wheeler explodes on him/with him in it and of course, he comes up out of the wreckage to continue the hunt.
