As if I needed more proof of my dorkery

Yesterday, doglr was so kind as to provide me a link to a webcam of Old Faithful, and I’ve kept it on my screen for most of the time that my computer’s been on since. The photo updates every 30 seconds. Since dogrl has actually been to Old Faithful, I asked her if I’d ever see any wildlife via the webcam. She said maybe not during good viewing hours, because there are always people there.

I don’t know WHY I’ve been spellbound by Old Faithful and its spectators for the last 24 hours, but the nice thing about being a writer? I’ve already figured out a way to use it even after the obsession passes (and it will, when something new replaces it). Therefore, whenever I pull up the site, instead of calling it “wasting time,” I get to call it “research.” EVERYONE should have a profession like this.

Meanwhile, look. I captured TWO wildlifes! 😉

Then, like dogrl said, the people came and the wildlifes left. But here’s a pretty picture of why the people came.

Last night (New Year’s Eve pictures and stories to come at some point), Lindsey’s friend Ileya was talking about traveling among the mountain ranges of Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana. At one point, as she spoke of the natural beauty, she said it made her think, This is America. I knew exactly what she meant. We really have a beautiful country and, in fact, a beautiful planet. I hope 2007 finds us being kinder to it.

  1. You did get a nice one of it going off!
In the one with the buffalo in it, I want to know WTF those people were doing so close! The second summer I was there was the summer of the buffalo–we got a fair number of people who thought they were like horses or something, got too close, and wham! those big boys can really gore you. (The first summer was the summer of the grizzly–several maulings through the season.)

  2. Is dogrl a fan of When Animals Attack? Because seriously, I love that … nothing makes me laugh then some dumbass treating a bear likes he’s Yogi in search of a pick-a-nick basket and seeing him get smacked upside the head for it. I giggle thinking about it.

I will be seeking therapy in 2007

    1. If that makes you giggle, you need to watch “Grizzly Man.” I caught it on Discovery last year and initially thought it was a mockumentary. Once I realized it was real, I couldn’t stop watching…in disbelief.

      1. I was in hysterics throughout the entire thing — watched it twice because it was so funny. For weeks at work we’d quote it — when he says “Iloveyou… Iloveyou… Iloveyou…GO AWAY!” and whacks the bear.

I feel horrible about it, but not horrible enough to put it at the top of my netflix list.

          1. I like all the locals saying “yeah, we knew it was going to happen, He was annoying the bears.” That and when his parents said his problems started when he lost the role of Woody on Cheers to Woody Harrelson.

            1. Oh wow…I must have tuned in after that interview. I’m going to have to rent this now.

I just remember him getting pissed at God about a drought (then taking credit for the rainstorm that popped up shortly thereafter), marveling at bear poop (“This poop was INSIDE HER just a bit ago!”), and him thinking that poachers were sending him warnings.

    2. I don’t think I’ve ever seen When Animals Attack. Maybe I need to check into it. Sounds like something I would watch in amazement.

As for therapy, isn’t that what this is?

  3. I hope to see that in real life sometime this year.

Old Faithful is one of the things in America that I was aware of very early, like the Golden Gate. 🙂
