A little something for you

Our poor lilies and elephant ears are looking damn sad today after the freezing temps last night. Every botanical that could be moved is cold but safe in the garage. And we’re expecting the plumber because we had a pipe fatality on the back of Tim’s apartment.

But this little rose was looking jaunty and hopeful even after a dog knocked it to the ground, so I thought I’d share it with y’all. That vase is one I gave my parents on their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary a loooooong time ago.

Even though my toes are cold and I may have to sell an organ to pay Guinness’s vet bill, I’m reading stories about Cyclone Yasi in Australia, the violence breaking out in Egypt (and found out one of my friends has family in Cairo), and I have family in the Midwest who’ve been without power (and heat) since last night. So I’ve got nothing to complain about and hope to hear good news from everyone soon.

My love/hate relationship with Facebook continues.

It got really dark earlier–SUPER dark–and I thought a big storm was rolling in. We got drizzle. That’s a lot of drama for not much payoff. Sort of like Facebook.

If I venture out to take care of some errands, the bad weather payoff may come. I will then bitch about that, too.

I’ve been on the phone almost since I woke up trying to take care of scheduling things and returning calls, and each of these calls has been an exercise in frustration. (In fact, I’m on hold right now.) If businesses want to deal with me on the phone, then why is the person I need to talk to always unavailable or “the system is down” or the person I get on the phone has no idea what I’m talking about? Trust me, none of these contacts is with some call center in India. People just don’t have their shit together. Wait–is tonight the full moon? Or was it last night? Maybe I’m dealing with werewolves.

I swear a rat just fell past my window. Maybe it’s like those birds in Arkansas. Rats falling from the sky, John McCain saying nice things about Barack Obama, and me getting nine uninterrupted hours of sleep last night. What is up with the universe?

A Compound bouquet for you, photographed on sunnier days:

All that glitters…

One thing about a house where a lot of crafting happens: There’s always some glitter somewhere. I’ll see it on Guinness’s nose, Margot’s paw. There’ll be some on Tom’s shirt or my cheeks. It’s never really gone, even if I haven’t used glitter for months, because whenever I pull paints and canvases or fabrics out, there will always be a bit of glitter clinging to them, too.

So I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that right now, Tom and I keep finding magnetic words in odd places. He found a word on the living room floor. I found one in the bathroom sink. And yesterday, when I turned my silver Magnetic Poetry box around on my desk, I was reminded that someone I love has a free spirit and can NOT be boxed in.

Hmph

Now I’m absolutely positive that Timothy J. Lambert sometimes dances in his apartment and that his dogs see this. So there was NO REASON why Pixie, Rex, and Penny had to freeze and stare at me like I’d lost my mind because of a little chair dancing. Everybody’s a critic.

Penny willing to replace Simon Cowell or Paula Abdul or whoever on whatever show.

I’m feeling very Thanksgivingy. Tonight’s menu: baked hen, cornbread dressing, cranberry sauce, beans, and salad. Wish you were here!

It’s called comfort food for a reason

Friday night while we were crafting*, The Brides’ potential brunch plans for Saturday were canceled. I suggested that we do brunch here–my sneaky way of getting Tom to make pancakes–and everyone was agreeable.

Saturday while Tom was manning the griddle, Lindsey cooked the OMGdelicious bacon she and Rhonda brought. I was sitting at the computer talking to them when the news hit about the shootings in Arizona. There’s really nothing more a person can ask than to be around people who know that a bit of silliness can carry us over some rough moments.

If it looks like a duck…

It’s probably not the Twitter bird.

After we ate our pancakes, bacon, and fresh fruit with some coffee, we escaped reality for a while by watching Eclipse. I really didn’t mean to make Rhonda watch it; I’ve been enjoying threatening her with it since early December. Now I have to wait a year before I’ll have another one to use against her.

Also, Lindsey and I had a Shoe vs. Shoe moment:

*By crafting, I mean painting, sketching, and the like. I thought I should clarify this lest you think we sit around casting spells and using voodoo dolls. That’ll be a different post. 😉
