International Women’s Day

Despite my urge to say more related to International Women’s Day about what’s going on in the U.S. and worldwide, I can express it no better than this. Be you. Be kind. Persevere.

On a personal note, thinking a lot about Riley on the date of his birth. It never mattered how much of our lives were lived away from each other, or all we never had enough time to tell each other. The core connection was unbreakable… and remains so.

It’s a false narrative that being a feminist means hating men. A desire for equality, inclusion, and parity are not indicators of hate. The desire to prevent and eradicate those things… That’s hate.

Button Sunday

Today’s project was working on some gifts that have been in the planning stage since Christmas. For late 2022 Christmas that’ll eventually happen with a couple of people. And also starting a small bottle-cap art project, because it’s been a while since I did those.

And other than posting about it now, no computers involved. At least my blog’s caught up, but I have little idea what’s going on in the rest of anyone’s world. Maybe that’s for the best.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEBBIE! (Not my sister Debby; my other Debbie.)

Saturday

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TIMMY. (And remembering my mother, whose birth date is also today.)

It’s impossible for me to be idle. So even though I’m doing my best not to look at any screens/monitors/devices, I found a task that’s easier on my eyes.

At some point, I began an album featuring the dogs Tim (and sometimes we) fostered beginning in 2008, with the first rescue he worked with because he saw a plea for help with EZ. I mostly kept it up through all those dogs. When he then became a board member of a different rescue group, and Tom and I volunteered with them, and then I got an actual staff position with them, I continued to keep up with our freedom rides and fosters, and then I was too busy to print pictures and get them in the album, so it became one of those “later, when I have time” things.

My only computer time has been finding photos to have printed, which Tom has repeatedly picked up for me, and now it’s mostly up-to-date. The work I was able to do took me different times of day and late into the night. No stress, no deadline, just a big low-key mess of tape and scissors, pens and stickers, all around me. It was a labor of love, with lots of new handwritten notes about the dogs and all their photos in one place. Maybe when I can spend more time online, I’ll share some of it. It remains a work in progress.

When I woke up Sunday morning, my vision got wonky again. Getting in to see someone as soon as I can when the weekend is over.

No, seriously

I was trying not to be dramatic, but apparently I need to clarify. I’m not on a fun break. Looking at any screen on any device is triggering migraine clusters. So if you are texting or messaging or commenting or whatever, any time I look at a screen on any device, I’m experiencing vision problems and headaches. I also can’t drive, watch TV, write on a computer (the only way I write fiction), etc. My eyes and my head need a break, and even when this resolves, I will be seriously curtailing screen time.

Thanks for understanding.

Break

I’ll catch up later. For now, no blog, no social media, no comments and replies, no scrolling, and–ugh–no devices like phones and iPads and computers, so no writing.

Still thinking, though. I AM an Aries.

ETA: The two books I read last month.

Tiny Tuesday!

If your memory is even better than my blog’s search function, you may remember that back in August of 2012, Lindsey brought her late Aunt Gwen’s sewing case to a craft night. She gave me carte blanche to go through it and take things I might need for all the sewing I was doing then, and I took some of the sewing notions and especially several spools of thread which I’ve used a lot and still have a supply of.

Last fall, when The Brides packed up their home so extensive remodeling could be done, they did a lot of purging, and Lindsey asked if I would like to have Aunt Gwen’s sewing case for keeps. OF COURSE I WOULD. I may have never met Aunt Gwen, but I feel a connection to her, and she was part of a lot of the doll fashion I made back then for Runway Monday.

I got to explore the sewing case again.

There was something new/different in it: this little black zippered case.

When I opened it, I found these beautifully crafted Marks cutting tools. SO NICE.

Please note the silver bullet, which is a needles case, and the thimble, both of which tuck snugly into their own places.

Such tiny surprises, and I hope that when I sew again, using these scissors, I can fashion something as beautifully crafted.

Thanks, Lindsey! <3
