Way back when, in fact, in August of 2006, I asked for tattoo suggestions for our narrator in WHEN YOU DON’T SEE ME. I got great responses when Marika, Timmy (yes, he was eligible; only Tim and Jim weren’t), Greg, Shannon, Jandy, Lindsey, Lynne, Rio, Crash, and Christina all sent in tattoo ideas. But there could be only one tattoo chosen by Nick, and that tattoo idea was submitted by:
I let Jeff know at the time that his tattoo was chosen, but I figured I needed to let all the rest of you know, too. Even if your tattoo didn’t make it to Nick’s skin, it did make it to Nick’s book. All your tattoos are suggested by other characters or considered by Nick in the novel’s tattoo scene.
If you want to know what the winning tattoo is… well, damn, you’ll have to buy WHEN YOU DON’T SEE ME.
However, Jeff, you’ll be getting your signed copy of the novel soon. Thank you so much. You had no way of knowing that your tattoo was exactly what our boy needed and…well, gave him some direction. 😉
I got my copy today!!!
Yay! I hope you enjoy it.
How are people getting copies … I haven’t got my book yet from Amazon damn them … and what was my tatoo suggestion I forgot.
You should get it soon, I imagine. Your idea? Marika! You’re asking me to post spoilers! Tsk, tsk.
This is so cool. I’m not sure I could relinquish control, like that, but it sounds open-door refreshing. : )
Actually, at the time, I was iffy about all my own ideas. If I recall correctly, my writing partners weren’t invested in anything (though we’d all decided on a tattoo scene and I was the one who got it when we started calling chapters/scenes).
Then I realized that maybe one of those marvelous coincidences would happen if I let it. When I got Jeff’s suggestion, it just clicked and opened the rest of the scene up.
Becky: Your contest was a lot of fun. I’m psyched that you chose my idea for Nick’s official tattoo. And that’s VERY cool that all of the ideas made it into the book. I can’t wait to see how you handled that chapter.
Thanks a bunch! Seeing your note just made my day. 🙂
Thank YOU.
Jeff–here it is late January, and I know you’ll think I’m crazy, but did I remember to send your signed copy of the novel? I may have. You may have even told me you received it. But my life has been so incredibly crazy over the past three to four months that I know I’ve forgotten to do things or let things slide.
Anyway, if you didn’t get a copy of WHEN YOU DON’T SEE ME, please let me know, and I’ll mail one to you. (I may need to get your address again.)
Thanks!
Hi Becky: Great to hear from you! Yep, you sent me a signed copy. Thank you so much. I sneaked a peak at the tattoo chapter and I absolutely love it! I’m looking forward to reading the whole thing–hopefully soon. It’s right at the top of my TBR pile. (I’m really behind in my reading.)
Oh, I got to add another book to the top of my piano. I received my contributor copies from Alyson of Ultimate Gay Erotica ’08 just two days ago. My first story with Cleis Press comes out at the end of February in Hard Hats.
Hope your schedule becomes less hectic soon. I miss your posts on LJ. I’ve been lax myself. I’m in “read-only” mode. Btw, isn’t it funny how publishing seems to be feast or famine? Take care! 🙂
Sneaked a PEEK, that is.
…Hate it when I make a typo. 🙂
