Occasionally when I need something familiar for a quick read, I take down Dennis Hensley’s book Screening Party. If you’re not familiar with it, it’s a collection of (somewhat fictionalized) articles he wrote based on movie nights with his friends, and it includes their witty commentary while watching such movies as Pretty Woman, Jaws, The Sound of Music, Body Guard, and many others. Over the course of the book, the reader gets attached to these friends and their individual personalities, and some of their quips are The. Best. Dialogue. Ever.
The last time I grabbed the book, I reread the first couple of pages of the Glitter chapter. Tonight I picked up the book again, and it reminded me that I’d never actually seen Mariah Carey’s movie. Fortunately, because of Dennis’s book, Tim bought the DVD long ago, and he was game to watch Glitter (again) with me.
Now that I’ve actually seen the movie, I not only re-laud Dennis Hensley’s brilliance, but I realize again that Tim is a truly wonderful, self-sacrificing friend. I just hope Whisper’s career didn’t end up in the (g)litter box.
Sounds like a book I would really enjoy.
If there is one thing I have always said about that Timothy, itis that the boy Glitters. Glitters like nobody’s business!

I’ve been wondering if that movie was bad enough to rent. Do you think it’s weird that I can’t read a book twice?
Weird? No. I think it’s weird when someone doesn’t read at all.
As for Glitter being bad enough, trust me, it is. And it’s not all Mariah’s fault.
I love making fun of bad movies, but I just don’t think I’m mentally prepared for Glitter. Although, I did find myself singing along to a Mariah Carey song the other day here in bad radio land. I should be medicated.

I’ve never seen the Mariah Carey movie (I thought she was a singer?) but it must be bad if you’re feeling appalled!
Sadly, I can’t name even one of her song titles (that’s a reflection on my cultural deficiency). I only know that her claim to fame is her range, which includes hitting high notes that cause dolphins to leap from the waves with expressions of, “What the HELL was that?”
But she’s quite popular and has been very successful, so kudos to her. She is, however, no actress.
