Memorial Day

Rob has a post with photos of cemeteries and numbers of our war dead buried in them in Europe. Every year on this day, I think of my father willing to give his life for what he believed in, then surviving the D-Day landing at Normandy. The Cochranes are fortunate that he came home safely. Without that homecoming, there would be no David, Debby, Becky, Daniel, Josh, Sarah, Gina, Aaron, Dave, Steven, Camden, Morgan, Evan, Rome, and Amelia (ETA 2022: Liam!).

Today I honor those who didn’t come home. And though I’m grateful for their sacrifices, I mourn all the lost promise and everything that could have been if such sacrifice hadn’t been necessary.

  1. And, ya know, without your dad and every one of those guys going over there and liberating Belgium (among other countries) there would be no Allan and Rhonda either. Thanks to all.
