In honor of Lindsey’s last post, I decided to share an old friend with you. This guy and I have logged a lot of hours together. During some of the best and worst times of my life, he was with me, always ready to give me a way to see the world–and sometimes buffer me from it. I was never as good as my old Canon deserved, but who knows what we may yet do together.
I hope you’ll comment with a page number between 1 and 611, and another number between 1 and 25, so this book can provide a Christmas Eve gift to be happy about.
page 12, #24
Ya know, I don’t think there is anyone or anything that can convince me that the Canon AE-1 was not the best consumer film SLR that was ever produced. One of my wants on my Xmas list this year was a Canon AE-1. 🙂
It’s a sweet little camera.
And from the book:
“laundry soap”
Page 52, Number 23 please. Thanks!
You’re most welcome. And from the book:

I also have an AE-1 that I just had tuned up at our local camera shop. I was offered quite the sum for it but I told the gentleman that it carries just more than monetary value and he totally understood.
It was the first purchase I ever made on a credit card when I was 18. (Sears) A grand total of $228 (hence my page pick) and I got the camera, straps, a carrying bag, a zoom lens and four boxes of film.
To this day – it was one of my best purchases ever, and it looks like it was one of yours too!
I love your AE-1 story! I bought mine on credit, too–From Speigel. I’d never spent that much money on anything except tuition, and this was the year after I graduated from college. For around $500, I got the camera, lens, telephoto lens (sucked using it and I gave it to Lynne for her Canon), teleconverter, macro filters, and the case. NO FILM! I was robbed!
From the book:
“feeding bread to birds in winter”
i don’t know anything about cameras, but that strap attached to it is terrific! 😉
pg. 72, #5, please.
The strap came from my one and only trip to Disneyworld. I think it’s the only memento I got myself.
