Hump Day Happy

In honor of Lindsey’s last post, I decided to share an old friend with you. This guy and I have logged a lot of hours together. During some of the best and worst times of my life, he was with me, always ready to give me a way to see the world–and sometimes buffer me from it. I was never as good as my old Canon deserved, but who knows what we may yet do together.

I hope you’ll comment with a page number between 1 and 611, and another number between 1 and 25, so this book can provide a Christmas Eve gift to be happy about.

Ya know, I don’t think there is anyone or anything that can convince me that the Canon AE-1 was not the best consumer film SLR that was ever produced. One of my wants on my Xmas list this year was a Canon AE-1. 🙂

  2. page 228 #8

I also have an AE-1 that I just had tuned up at our local camera shop. I was offered quite the sum for it but I told the gentleman that it carries just more than monetary value and he totally understood.

It was the first purchase I ever made on a credit card when I was 18. (Sears) A grand total of $228 (hence my page pick) and I got the camera, straps, a carrying bag, a zoom lens and four boxes of film.

To this day – it was one of my best purchases ever, and it looks like it was one of yours too!

    1. I love your AE-1 story! I bought mine on credit, too–From Speigel. I’d never spent that much money on anything except tuition, and this was the year after I graduated from college. For around $500, I got the camera, lens, telephoto lens (sucked using it and I gave it to Lynne for her Canon), teleconverter, macro filters, and the case. NO FILM! I was robbed!

      From the book:

“feeding bread to birds in winter”

    1. The strap came from my one and only trip to Disneyworld. I think it’s the only memento I got myself.

      From the book:

      “window seats at a restaurant”

      1. you know becks, I DO love a MOIST towelette, heck I even enjoy a MOIST towel, but a MOIST towelette is the best. Usually, I’m the one that has to make them MOIST, towels that are MOIST and fresh — well that’s just heaven!

So you know, I had to walk away from the computer when I saw this I was laughing so hard…YES MARIKA THERE IS A SANTA CLAUS

    1. From the book for you and your musk ox:

“lying in bed at night, picking out one thing you did well for the day, and congratulating yourself”

    1. Thank you–Merry Christmas to you (especially if the snow goes away a little and you can share the day).

      From the book:

“using a brass corn popper on the hearth for roasting chestnuts, baking potatoes, or grilling sandwiches”

    1. LOL. Here’s my random pick from the book for you, Santa Baby:

      page 209, number 23:

      “squirrels with the bushiest tails”

What a coincidence! I’m sure I NEVER told you the story about the squirrel on the day that Tim came from NYC for a visit…

    1. Merry Christmas to you, too! (I assume it’s already Christmas there? Or did I miss it? The time thing really confuses me.)

      From the book:

      “a simple holiday party”

  3. Squeaking in under the wire (much like everything I do regarding the holidays), page 101, number 3, please. (Obviously, I don’t expect you to be up this late. It can wait.)

    Merry Christmas!

    Jeffrey R.

    1. I’m glad you squeaked in. Merry Christmas to you and yours. =)

      And from the book:

“truck headlights that invade your motel room at three in the morning”
