A huge thank you to asterapallas for embedding the following youtube link in her LJ. Sometime back, I think a few of us talked about favorite commercials from the past. This was, bar none, my favorite commercial during the 1980s. I had videotaped a TV movie, and this commercial played during the movie, so I had a copy. But of course, that videotape is long gone, and whenever I checked youtube, the commercial wasn’t there.
Now it is, and I know about it thanks to AP. =) Mock me if you must, but this is the one commercial that could make me cry every time I saw it, even more than the phone company commercials: “Little Sister.”
I somehow never saw that one. Thank you for posting it. Oh yeah, it’s making me mist up… reminds me of my son and my daughter. *cries* He’s about to turn 20 and she’s only 13 — and she was tough on him in those early years, very jealous! — but they are now developing a beautiful understanding which is separate from their relationship with us, the parents.
You’re most welcome.
My brother is eight years older than me. Although our life wasn’t exactly like in “Little Sister,” I did idolize him. (But it was my older sister who I tormented.)
Sweet… reminds me of the remake of Father of the Bride. I like when she and her friend are walking into McDonald’s aping the lovebirds.
YouTube’s the best for recapturing stuff. This entry made me run off to watch my old Little Caesar’s gigglefest, but it’s saying, “no longer available,” darn it all. : )
What IS it with these youtube videos that disappear? That keeps happening to me (as I find out when I’m going through my own archives for some reason and links no longer work).
Another mysterious thing is how a lot of my photos don’t show up in old posts–yet their flickr addresses haven’t changed. I wonder what makes that happen.
Technology is hard.
Yeah, I was hunting through your archives earlier and noticed that Flickr “photo not available” thing. Urrgg…
Keep meaning to compliment November ’08’s banner. : )
And look… either title this entry or I’m going to get testy.
Thanks! It’s from a photo I took the day we went out with The Brides post-hurricane.
There’s a title now, so you’ll have to find a new excuse for your bad behavior.
Oh, suddenly I remember that turquoise color very well! : )
Okay… as someone who’s little sister is 21 urs younger, this was soooo cool, Becky! Thanks for posting it.
You’re very welcome.
This commercial always made me tear up too. Thanks, Becks.
You’re welcome. Even EVIL has a heart! =)
Shhhhh! It will be our little secret.
I will speak of it to no one.
Aww…
I am so glad that you also loved this commercial. It was also my favorite commercial ~ I was delighted to see it on YouTube.
🙂
You make me smile, Becky.
Thank-you.
*HUGS*
No, thank YOU. You make me smile, too. =)
Wow, I don’t remember that one at all. It would be fun if McDonald’s did a sequel to this commercial, a sort of “Where are they now?” in 2008.
BROTHER: “Here sis, have a french fry.”
SISTER: “Are you crazy?! Thanks to you I’ve been on a diet since ’85! And why the hell are you still eating those things, anyway? Your cholesterol is through the roof! C’mon fat boy, we’re getting you a salad.”
You’re funny! Still, I think I probably couldn’t hire you to write sequels to my novels.
You know, I used to get misty about this commercial till I was over at a friend’s house and saw her brother beat the crap out of her for an Oreo cookie.
I believe that this was created to give only children a false sense of family, to make us feel bad for something we are lacking and have no control over. This just promotes the “lonely only” stereotype. Thanks McDonald’s.
Dang.
Here, let me slide my Cocoa Krispies over so you can pee in them.
consider it done
