Looking for the spark

I had reason to look through the sketchbook where I put the pages I’ve colored when they’re complete, and I noticed something. I did a LOT of coloring in January, somewhat less in February, and drastically less in March. Tom pointed out that a lot was happening here in March so that wasn’t surprising.

However, so much of what I write has its genesis in what I think about when I color. I get new ideas. I create dialogue. I analyze my characters and their motivations.

Since I’ve been stalled on my current chapter for far too long, I’ve been pondering why. I know the busy month with many distractions is part of it. I know sometimes people get into my head in ways that muzzle me and my creative voice. But it may also be that a lack of the coloring that keeps me still and focused and able to think has been a part of the holdup in writing.

I have four drawings in my coloring queue. I think it’s time to pick up the pencils, paint pens, and markers and open my mind and heart to my writing muses.
