Magnetic Poetry 365:300

I can’t believe I’m at poem 300. Only 65 more to go!

We’ve talked on here before about Victoria Holt books. It’s possible Bride of Pendorric was the first romantic suspense novel I ever read. My mother got it through her book club, and I’m not sure why she saved it through the decades when so many other books were rehomed, but she did. Her copy is now in my library. BUT–its dust jacket was long gone. Recently, Greg found a copy and sent it to me ’cause he knows it’s my favorite Victoria Holt novel. I’ve been reading it again before falling asleep each night–after watching Netflix episodes of The Vampire Diaries. Boy, are my dreams weird.

Thank you, Greg, for your thoughtful gift. As your reward, you get a sneak peek of something that’ll be part of my final collection. Mwa ha ha, just in time for Halloween.

  1. Ooooh, I’ve always wanted a long cowled cape–black, of course–or what is that called? Anyway, I always wanted one.

  2. I was recently reading Bride of Pendorric – and it confused me, it starts off almost exactly the same as The Judas Kiss, only add a sister – is it plagarism if you do it to yourself?

    1. I’m sure I read The Judas Kiss at some point, but looking at the plot of it, it sounds nothing like Bride of Pendorric, so I don’t know what to tell you. Except I think it’s called “formulaic” if you rip off your own writing and make money at it.

      1. its just the beginning … artist Dad living on an island with his daughter drowns himself etc … same … Pippa and her sister are sent away to live with distant family. i like The Judas Kiss better … but I love both of them.

I am assuming you are designing for superheros.

  3. I love Victoria Holt just as much now as I did when a teenager – ok maybe not quite as much as when I was a teenager. 🙂

    1. That’s how I feel about Mary Stewart. I am genuinely enjoying Bride of Pendorric again, though I must have read it a dozen times.

  4. Oh my goodness, I spent many an hour curled up with either a Victoria Holt or Mary Stewart book when I was a youngster! I loved loved loved “The Crystal Cave”!

I’m happy to see a new generation reading their books!

    1. I’ve just started my friend Kathy S on the Mary Stewart books. They have kept me company for decades; I never get tired of them!
