1. Today I can’t seem to stop watching what’s going on in Cairo and Alexandria via Al Jazeera. Apparently, this revolution will be televised. I can’t say I have any great understanding of the political situation in Egypt; here are the things that have interested me.
- The Internet can be shut down, but with a press still able to give us reports through journalists in the field and broadcasters, the world gets news. And even without access to the Internet, Egyptians still manage to assemble to protest. They’re driving between towns and using their phones to organize, and even when there are no clear leaders, they aren’t turning into mobs.
- The cooperation between the military and the protesters has shifted the atmosphere from violence to orderly protest. I hope that continues. Meanwhile, average citizens have stepped in where the police have failed to try to return normalcy and security to neighborhoods (there is looting of and damage to businesses).
- Regular citizens are linking arms to repel intruders who would loot and destroy cultural treasures inside museums. It’s moving to see their determination to honor and protect their country’s heritage.
2. It’s 34 degrees here and I still won’t get any sympathy because it’s so much colder/icier/snowier everywhere else.
3. Does anyone else think Lauren Conrad and Kate Middleton look like each other?
Lauren Conrad, Reality Princess Past – Kate Middleton, Real Princess Future
4. The Google Art Project is great! Today I’ve taken virtual tours of the Tate and National Gallery in London.
It’s 34 degrees here and I still won’t get any sympathy because it’s so much colder/icier/snowier everywhere else.
It’s 53 degrees, here.
You have my sympathy!
🙂
Yay! Thank you.
mine too … it is 42 now going to go down in the 30’s tonight! I am going to check out this google thing of which you speak!
It’s 23 here right now (just before 4 a.m.).
right at 4am … 32 am … the heat is turned down, the electric blanket turned up … we will be in bed within the hour
I’m on my way to mine, as well.
Dash is already Snoozy McPupperskins — his pink little belly is all warm from the blanket…
I’m really hoping that these positive signs in Egypt continue. I was scared that a wholesale massacre was going to happen, but apparently the Egyptian Army isn’t willing to do that to keep Mr. Dictator in power. I also hope that a democracy that respects everyone’s rights comes into power and not some nutso dictatorship ala Iran.
I was eleven when Charles and Diana got married. I remember watching a little bit of the wedding live really early in the morning that day. I think I went back to sleep. Can you imagine what a brouhaha this is going to be?
Yeah, the Egypt situation is fascinating.
I think this royal wedding may be a little more low-key than Charles and Diana’s. Kate Middleton and William also seem like level-headed young adults.
..also LOVE the new banner … and the dress that Kate Middleton is wearing, if you see the rest of it is gorgeous. I like her, no offense to Lauren Conrad – but I don’t know who she is.
Thanks!
Lauren Conrad was part of Laguna Beach and The Hills reality shows, she has her own fashion line and was an intern at Teen Vogue, and she’s an actress and novelist. Not bad for someone born in 1986.
You get sympathy from me, as your summers are beyond horrendous, no offense, and those nasty hurricanes, and all of your beautiful winter plants suffer so when it gets cold and frosty. Poor things.
Thank you.
Right now, most of the plants are shivering in the garage. But at least they’re out of the worst of the cold.
Tate Modern or Tate Britain?
Tate Britain.
I haven’t been there for ages! I’ll have to go…
Egypt… what is their definition of democracy? this is a wait and see situation…
i am right there with you on the cold. I am SICK of it. Snow tomorrow (Friday)? No Thanks.
I’ve decided not to complain. Debby’s been without power for more than 13 hours. She and Harley are COLD in their house. And she had to take three inches of ice off her car.
