I shot this wildflower the other day, and my additional creative task for today was to find out its name. Thank goodness for Wikipedia.
It’s Mimosa pudica, also called “sensitive plant,” “humble plant,” “shameful plant,” “sleeping grass,” and “touch-me-not” because of its shrinking reaction to contact.
Is it illegal to dig it up and bring it home?
Probably.
We had a mimosa tree in my backyard when I was growing up … it was the most wonderful tree ever. Whenever I think of a “dream hose” there is always a mimosa tree
I’ll be posting a photo just for you–probably tomorrow.
I Love My TickleMe Plant
Hi Becky,
Great picture! Now it known as the TickleMe Plant in schools and museums as it really does move when you Tickle it! The leaves instantly close and even the branches droop. They were easy to grow at home
indoors in the TickleMe Plant Greenhouse I found at http://www.ticklemeplant.com You gotta love that video and song! I think everyone should grow one..don’t you?
