Thanks to Laurie S and her desire to clean out her garage, I’m now the proud possessor of two of Mattel’s Erica Kane dolls. I’ve said it to some of you All My Children fans before, but back in the dark ages when it was a brand new soap and everyone was all about mousy, goody two shoes Tara Martin, my mother watched Susan Lucci and said, “Forget Tara. Erica’s going to be the star of this show.”
She’s certainly been the reigning queen of daytime–and just yesterday, Tim directed me to two episodes of the sitcom Hope & Faith in which Susan Lucci put in a hilarious guest appearance as a scheming soap diva.
From the back of the doll’s box: Erica Kane, played by the beautiful and talented Susan Lucci, is a character many viewers aspire to be. So maybe it’s the approximately twelve-times-married Erica who’s to blame for today’s news about the Gores’ divorce–although Tipper looks a lot more like Nikki Newman on The Young and the Restless.
Thanks, Laurie! I’ll have Erica dressed by Becks and up to no good soon!
I started watching All My Children when it was brand new and I was with your mother–Tara was dull as dishwater; I watched for Erica because stuff always happened when she was on.
And I know a certain Miss de la Fontaine model who needs to be watching her back now that Erica’s on the scene…
Figaro is probably the ONLY one who could hold her own with Erica Kane.
Oddly I saw a smidge of AMC today, Erica is being held captive by Michael Nouri and was …get ready ..CHOPPING WOOD. She mentioned that she had been married 10 times … of course poor Jackson “I can’t keep a woman” Montgomery was trying to phone her to no avail.
Love the doll!
I liked Michael Nouri way back on Search for Tomorrow, but he was ruined for me by a stint on The Young and the Restless.
If you add in the invalid marriages and vow renewals, according to Wikipedia:
The character has been married numerous times to multiple men. Seven of her marriages to six different men have been valid while four of her other marriages are invalid. Generally, the number of times Erica has been married is named as ten, though the total of her valid and invalid marriages, plus her 1991 vow renewal with Adam Chandler, would come up to twelve.
Wikipedia? WIKIPEDIA?! ERICA said 10 just this afternoon, I dare not question her – I’ve seen what happens to those that do… No way am I getting locked up in the crypt at the Merrick masnsion
SO wonderful!
It’s like when she was married to Tom Cudahy, but still
went on to become the world’s shortest Top Fashion Model!
I have no idea what she was up to when I stopped watching the show. I think she’d only had three husbands by then.
I can remember when she and Tom owned The Goalpost, and he wanted a baby … but Erica was secretly on …GASP.. the pill … which is amazing since I am only 35.
Love her X2!! LOL I LOVE Erica. I remember you saying that about your mom when I posted the pic sof my Eirca dolls.
People can say what they want about soaps and their actors, but Susan Lucci has not only stayed in th esame role for forty years, but also done Broadway and primetime, while doing it, as well as headed up a major company.
What “big star” can say that?
