I’m so intrigued by tilt shift photography, and today Terry provided a link to a video using it, as well as time lapse. A day in the life of NYC–“in miniature.”
ETA 2022: Sorry, that was a dead link all these years later.
Who goes there? Please leave comments so (An Aries Knows)!

Neat video. I love tilt/shift photography, and keep reading about the lenses, but the $2500+ cost per lens is an awful lot of money.
Apparently, iPhone has a tilt shift app. This is how most people who can’t afford those lenses are learning it and developing their skills.
I don’t have an iPhone.
Hey, I think I saw miniature me!
I think I did, too! There was a clown following about twenty feet behind you, right?
So glad you enjoyed it too Becky. I’ve never been to New York and never really have had a desire to go there. San Francisco is about as big a city and I’ve been able to tolerate and love. But this video brought back feelings I have about San Francisco and just really loved the flow, the sound and the shots that showed NYC being a tad less frenetic than I always imagined. I might actually give NYC a shot now and visit it.
Oh, I LOVE NYC. I would go twice a year if I could. The trick, I think, especially your first time, is to be with someone who really knows the city and also knows you.
The photography in this video makes our hold on this planet look so fragile–both the time lapse and tilt-shift effects seem to negate gravity and show how ever-changing and mighty water is. It strips away the illusion that we humans are all-powerful over nature and the elements. Yet there’s such a beauty in that fragility, and in our hurriedness, and our daily living.
And the construction equipment–I always enjoy the way machines mimic animals–dinosaurs–and here, those images look even more whimsical.
Yeah, clearly, I love this video.
