Hump Day Happy

Once a woman’s shared memories of her tender teenage years in a post, the only thing she can do next is…

Post pictures of gigantic presidents’ heads!

Marika, your two favorites…TOGETHER! Presidents Andrew Jackson and Teddy Roosevelt.

My personal favorite of the photos, President Gerald “Chia Pet” Ford:

To see more of David Adickes’ presidential sculptures and to name the presidents that I’m too tired to Google and identify, you can check out my full Flicker set. C’mon–you KNOW you want to see Richard Nixon’s nose.

Meanwhile, if you comment with a page number between 1 and 611, and another number between 1 and 25, Candidate Snoopy promises to find you something to be happy about.

  1. Dash wants 65 number 2 and I want page 14 number 14 … Look TR is head and shoulders above the rest!!! And check, Andy’s hair … always nice – feathered before Farrah! I can’t believe you got TR and Andy together! It’s like it was meant to be!

    1. For Dash:

“hats: Derringer, drifter, longhorn, panama, safari, plantation”

For you (as if AJ and TR aren’t enough):

      “Porsche 911s”

      1. Doesn’t it look like I took Andy cruisin’ in my 911 already? His hair has that windblown quality. Of course, I doubt Dash in his plantation hat would not be so willing to give up his seat … and thank you for not giving me a Porshe 550 Spyder… I will pass on the James Dean death car … that is not a happy

  2. I love his sculptures. Do you think he would do work outside of Houston? Our new City Garden would be perfect for his work. How come you didn’t get a picture of the gay president’s head … Jimmy B?

And I would be happy to see what’s on Page 90 … item 14.

    1. Other than the presidents, Adickes is apparently mostly painting again now. I have no idea if he’s accepting other commissions.

I photographed the presidents who were there. This isn’t a public park with the full set of the presidents, it’s Adickes’ work space. The presidents who aren’t there have already been relocated to their permanent homes.

      From the book:

“happiness coming in three ways: anticipation, realization, memory”

    1. Re: Please…

Ohhh, it’s the duke! I was just thinking of Rach and Renee and us yesterday. 😉

      From the book:

      “cupcake papers”

    1. I can’t believe she hasn’t already stopped in to express her AJ/TR love!

      From the book:

“Victorian furniture and lamps with red bows”

(I answered this once, and it didn’t show up! Crazy.)

    2. what? First Andy was a man of great personal courage … and one of the first things I learned about him in school was about how he stood up to British soldiers as a boy, he was wildly in love with his wife – Rachel. Okay, Trail of Tears … an incredibly bad thing, but by the time I learned about that I was already deeply solidified in all things Andy…he saved New Orleans, my home. He was the last President to have served in the Revolution and the 2nd Prisoner of War to be elected. He shaped the modern Democratic Party. Someone tried to assassinate him and he beat them with his cane! Again, I know there were some terrible things that happened in his administration – he was all about the rights of the common man – he did a lot of good too… and while I understand why some question my love of Andy, I stand behind it.

As for TR, WHAT?! I can’t imagine that there are people who don’t LOVE TR! Seriously? Okay, he didn’t maybe deserve the Peace Prize, but Dude teddy bears are named after him? Do I really need to sing his praises? Because I will…

  3. Wow, am I messed up. I was thinking today was Thursday and I had somehow missed this yesterday.
So, since it is still hump day will you please make me happy with page 427, number 24?

    1. Even if it were Thursday, you could still give me numbers and I’d share the happiness. It’s never too late to be happy. From the book:

      “candlewick bedspreads”

    1. See, they make me laugh, too, but not in a bad way. I think all his sculptures have this whimsical quality, even when they’re not of whimsical things, if that makes sense.
