Rambling Random Run-on blah blah blah

Note: Kroger-brand cranberry juice is crap. I’m sorry, Kroger, but it just is. The grape juice and apple juice are okay, though.

Second note: If there’s anything Hewlett-Packard does right, it’s the way they set up a return/recycle feature with their printer cartridge packaging. Holla.

For the past couple of weeks, I haven’t felt…me-ish. I haven’t felt sick, though there were a couple of little indications that I might be. But because I like to self-diagnose with my degree in An Aries Knows Everything, I sort of ignored it. I felt fine on Tuesday night when I got to see my friend Lisa (she who my writing partners call Big Hair Lisa to separate her from other Lisas) for the first time in forty forevers. (Hi, Lisa! And the other Lisa, too!)

When I am sick, I can see it in my face–I think my mother always could, too. I woke up Wednesday feeling worse than not-me-ish, and I kind of ignored my reflection, because after all, advanced AAKE degree! I did some quiet, crafty kinds of things while keeping company with the dogs (including Sugar, although not really, because I already sold her to the gypsies, please don’t tell The Brides, or tell Madonna that I’m dissing the gypsies, because really, I have nothing against gypsies, my mother always said we got my sister from them, and I adore my sister).

Some quiet, crafty things:

Sewed pillows for an Adirondack chair.
Upholstered a new sofa for the Top Model fitting and posing rooms.

It wasn’t until Tim came over with his advanced degree in No Beck You Don’t Know Everything that I became convinced that probably I needed a real doctor. But this made me kind of pouty, because I wanted to go to Kimberly Frost’s signing at Murder By the Book.

So I did. And Kimberly Frost has a wonderful, energetic personality. She had a good crowd who asked smart questions, and I love to hear other writers talk about their work with such enthusiasm. I was so touched as I was talking with gavinatlas, while waiting in line for Kimberly to sign my copy of Barely Bewitched, when he took a copy of A Coventry Wedding out of his bag for me to sign. And then Kimberly, who I’d never met, greeted me by name with a big smile and took her copy of A Coventry Christmas from under the table so I could sign it while she signed her novel. My spirits soared, because it always feels good to see people with my novels–and writers with them: that’s like [insert some highly original simile that would win David Puterbaugh’s approval here].

Joking with Kimberly about how my book would look bigger than her book (it’s not) because it’s closer to the camera. Tyra Banks would approve of how she smiles with her eyes.

I was so sad about having to get out of there so fast, because then there was this:

The bar code that means $$ and thank goodness I have health insurance and don’t even get me started on that topic.

I have a couple of infections–nothing contagious, no need to back away from your monitor; besides, I would never have gone to the signing with anything contagious–and now I’ve got drugs and some cool stuff to look at, like:

Morning, glory!

And isn’t the cover of this book that I’m lucky enough to own, edited by my friend and grad school roommate Lynn Domina, totally stunning?

The painting, Cloister, is by artist Mira Lehr.

I divided my time Thursday between enjoying dog therapy, reading Kimberly’s book, sleeping, and staring at Lehr’s paintings online.

Really, I’ve got nothing to complain about. The cranberry juice isn’t that bad.

  1. Writers holding each other’s books has got to be a heart-thrilling moment. I’m glad you did get to meet Kimberley.

Sorry you’re a bit under the weather – the cranberry juice was a good clue – hope you’ll be feeling better soon.

*runs off to look at more Lehr work*

  2. I read the word simile as smile at first, which brought a puzzled looked to my face, like one I might have if I took a sip of a tart Cosmo and suspected bad cranberry juice.

  3. I think you received your advanced AAKE degree from the same institution I earned my A Scorpio Knows Everything accredidation. 🙂

Thanks for the tip on the Kroger cranberry juice. I will not be purchasing it. I usually buy the OceanSpray brand.

Hospitals are no fun! I’ve had my fair share of them in the last year. Glad to hear that you are on the mend and not contagious.

Ohhhh…so pretty!! It makes me fluttery and calm at the same time.

  4. Hope you feel better Becky. A dog in your lap does wonders for recovery.

I confess to using the Kroger Lite “cranberry” juice. But I like the Northland brand 100% juice better, it’s just pricier.

    1. Thanks. Yep, dogs are the best.

I’m not that big a fan of cranberry juice in the first place. I try to limit the juices (too much sugar!) and vary them, though.

  5. All I’m saying is, if you’re going to post pictures of books like that, you need to put a link to Amazon or something so I can immediately add it to my Wish List…

    Speedy recovery!

    1. I’m feeling a lot better. Those morning glories are taking over, and I can’t say I’m sorry. Anything that can thrive on The Compound is welcome. Well, except mosquitoes and rats, of course.

  6. booksigning

That was neat the way an author you like reading enough of to hav the book signed by them, ended up having a book of yours and wanting it signed too.

I hope you get back to being more you (better, not sick).
