Back in November of 2006, I explained the origin of the angels that adorn The Compound every Christmas. Over the years, these paper angels have been cut out, colored, painted, and otherwise gussied up by friends, family, and me. The book they come from, A Christmas Angel Collection, is a little pricier than in the old days when I bought several, because it’s out of print now. The drawings are based on famous paintings from centuries past.
I store them flat in an angel tin, and every year, it’s Tim’s job to take them out, fix them so they’ll stand, and put them on the molding over our living room and dining room windows. And it’s our job not to turn on the ceiling fan in the dining room, because that sends angels a’flyin’.
You have the most beautiful Christmas traditions.
Your Angels are so pretty.
What a marvelous tradition.
You, your friends and your family are talented artists.
🙂
Thank you. Coming from you–a Craft Arts Guru!–that is high praise. =)
Beautiful!
They are. =)
They’re so pretty. Did anyone customize more than one? I’m seeing a few that I like, and wondered if they might be by the same hand.
Oh, yes. I wish they were all signed, and I’m not even sure I could pick mine out from the others anymore. We’ve been doing this for sixteen years!
I need to go back to your November of 2006 entry and read the story behind these. Think I’ll do that now. : )
Okay, done. I like your ’08 pictures better… though it’s funny seeing someone decorate a Christmas tree with a sweaty T-shirt on (funny to someone not familiar with Houston’s holiday heat, that is).
Lovely!
I think they are, too. I’m always happy when it’s time to bring out the angels.
Wow!
=)
I’m totally inspired — as soon as I get home from the hand surgeon tomorrow I getting my Christmas Past and Christmas Future trees out of the closet and setting them upl
I hope there will be photos! I’m glad if anything here helps bring the Christmas spirit to you. =)
They are indeed so very very beautiful!
Thank you, Todd. =)
Okay, I just went and ordered the book on amazon — SWEET DEAL, and I am stealing this tradition … thank you for sharing.
Does that mean I get to color an angel for you?
Where in the world did you find that wonderful coffin in your next post?? It’s fantastic! Just love the sign!
Thanks! Morgan’s mother (my niece), grandmother (my sister), and I were walking down the street in Gatlinburg, TN. I think it may have been at the haunted house–part of a sidewalk show that was closed at the time. The two of them said, “Morgan, stand there and let Aunt Becky take your picture!” And she did. She’s probably going to be mad at us when she’s older, sees it, and realizes we were teasing her. But that picture cracks me up every time I look at it. Morgan makes my heart light. =)
wings
Awesome 🙂
