A nod to Houston autumn

“There is no season when such pleasant and sunny spots may be lighted on,
and produce so pleasant an effect on the feelings,
as now in October.”

        1. He’s carrying concealed under his wing.

I give you a hopeful slice of life quote from one of America’s greatest writers, and you just want to mock Texas ducks.

          Shame.

    1. “I didn’t know that Hawthorne was a Texan!”

Nathaniel Hawthorne was born in Salem, Massachusetts, and attended Bowdoin College in Maine. He’s a New England lad, like me.

      1. I was joshin’. I am a great admirer of Nate – been to his house and everything . I love love love The Scarlet Letter. My husband and I drove up the NE coast for a “honeymoon” and went right on in to Canada. Had he not been along, it might have been a more enjoyable trip.

    1. That’s a cropped shot. I think in the original, another duck was showing his ass to me or something.

Did y’all go there this past Tuesday? I thought about calling you, but it was midafternoon before I remembered, and I wasn’t sure when you were going.

Do you love that photo of Sugar I used on Photo Friday? Her WTF look cracks me up. I think I shot that photo the day I bought the Nikon.

      1. We did go, oh you should have called! We went at about 3. And we got some wicked shots of a nutria. 🙂

I LOVE the Photo Friday photo for today! It took me a while to remember when that was, and why the hell I was at your house in my paint clothes. But I do remember you taking that shot. — Sugar’s face cracks me up, too… this is totally getting saved to my screen saver slide show at work. 😉

    2. Okay–there should now be a Houston Hermann Park set open to my friends on Flickr. They are untouched, uncropped, unenhanced in any way–but they’re there. Let me know if you can’t see them. =)

  1. Today I wore my wool hat, a hoodie, and had my fists in my pockets. My breath was clouding, there was frost on the windows of the cars, and it was still too dark for birds on the way to work.

Thanks for the above photo. You have no idea…

    1. Yikes! I’m sorry the cold and dark are encroaching so quickly. I’ll try to give you lots of bright photos from here to remind you that spring will come again.

    1. We hardly see any autumn colors here. And after Hurricane Ike, our trees seem either to have lots of dead leaves or they’re confused about what season it is and have started budding.
