A most trusting and generous friend:

One who says, “Whatever, dude, it’s a camera. A friendship is worth a lot more,” when I express anxiety as she places in my hands her most beloved Nikon D80 for a week because my D40 is still at Nikon–and I’m about to see so many of the people I cherish all in one place–an event NOT to be trusted to a point-and-shoot Kodak with flash issues.

That friend is Lindsey, and if anything happens to her camera, I’m gonna need a job. And maybe a new address. 😉

The photographs are going to rock my world and give me something to treasure for the rest of my life. Thank you, Lindsey, a million times, thank you.

  1. That was very nice of Lindsey. Yeah, I know exactly what you mean: borrowing something from a friend can be inherently stressful since you don’t want it to get damaged.

    1. She’s the best. She’s also right, however. If something untoward did happen, a camera is replacable. I’d just have to pimp Tim in the Kroger parking lot or something, until I made enough money to buy a new camera. 😉

Tim knows nothing about this plan. It’s just between me and the Internet.

  2. I’m just happy I had a camera I could lend to you. As a fellow (obsessive) photographer, you know I understand the importance of capturing those rare moments and events. Sure, I miss my baby; but it would upset me greatly to think of you going on this trip without a way to visually document everything. That’s just not right.

And seriously, don’t worry about anything happening to my camera. If something breaks – it breaks. And it’s either fixable or replaceable. I don’t want you adding camera protection to your list of things to stress about.

    1. Today I did some test shots with it, and oh, man. Everything just looks so good and crisp (well, if I hold the camera steady, etc.).

I’m taking the tripod, too, so hopefully I’ll get some good group shots. It’s a very large group, though, so it may be like herding cats. Only without sandpaper tongues.

      1. The timer setting is set at 20 seconds, so if you want to get yourself in the shot, just flip it into timer mode while on your trusty tripod (need me to show you the button to do that? it’s super easy. also, set up the focus manually for those, over the auto — sometimes the auto focuses weird in the timer mode).

And it’s a really good thing you took your lens. Group shots will be much better with your wide angle. 🙂
