Hump Day Happy

Do you want to get me out of the house today? We’re running out of days when I’ll be inclined to go anywhere with my camera because of the OPPRESSIVE FREAKING HEAT AND HUMIDITY. Plus my camera has to go back to Nikon for a visit soon.

But:

If you want one of 14,000 things to be happy about from this book:

just comment with a page number from 1 to 612 and another number between 1 and 30. I’ll endeavor not only to find an answer from the book, but to take a photo or snag one from my archives that will–at least in Becky World–have something to do with your answer.

    1. “sitting up straight”

From the archives: “Straight” isn’t a word normally associated with this group. James is leaning, Kenneth is trying to sit up VERY straight, and Steve is relaxed.

    1. “lasagna servers”

This is what I normally use to serve my lasagna, even though it’s not technically a lasagna server. I shot it against a dishcloth embroidered by my mother.

      1. how cute!!

i didn’t even read the actual words for my pg/no for the first couple of glances – that’s how completely adorable the dishcloth pig is. 🙂

        1. Ohhhhhh… Good plan! Yes, I bought it at Whole Foods. I actually shot photos there, satisfying my need to reply to Mark’s “be happy” selection. But the bread looked so freaking good that I bought it.

          1. I was unaware Whole Foods had Challah… I’ll have to check it out sometime… let me know how it compares to say, 3 Brothers Challah.

But for Challah french toast? Any egg bread will do. 🙂

    1. “Staffordshire calico dinnerware”

Someone has had this before, and it’s Google-able. I’d have loved to have searched antique stores until I could find a piece of this to photograph, but my back would not have cooperated. Thus, I did what I most love to do when I’m feeling low. I drove through West U and looked at houses, trying to find one that I suspected might have some Staffordshire calico dinnerware on display.

Mostly, I just looked for houses with red doors to cheer you up. I’m putting a couple here.

      1. So nevermind the fact that I’ve been pretty weepy since Saturday — this made me tear up a wee bit. Just that you know the red door thing, and went out of your way to do that. I LOVE these. Especially that first house with the light going through the trees like that. It looks all warm and cozy; and like I could absolutey take a nap on their front lawn. You think they’d find that odd?

        ((thank you))

        1. Kathy and I would sit in the car and guard you, so that if the owners tried to wake you or kick you off their lawn, we could tell them that you’re just a girl in need of a comfort nap.

          1. That leaves Rhonda free to snuggle with me. 🙂

LOL. I have such great buddy-guards. Yesterday we were leaving the office and I casually said, “I’m hungry.” And K was all, “What do you want? I’ll take ya wherever you want to go, I’ll buy you all the food you can eat. You haven’t eaten anything substantial for two days… LET’S GO!”
I’m one, lucky lady, I tellyawhat.

  1. Thank you, page 521 please number 12 please — and though you’re much too young to remember the series I have the complete multi-volume DVD set of the BEST OF THE MIDNIGHT SPECIAL. There was some great LIVE rock material in that series, and Wolfman Jack, too.

    1. You’re right. I’m too young. 😉

      “hands on a ship”

From the archives: not technically a ship, but this is a favorite shot of Marina Del Rey in 1998. In the forefront, you might see ONE hand on board a boat.

    1. “a smiling countenance”

In this archived photo (that I once used for Photo Friday), you get two for the price of one. My gorgeous nieces around 1980. This is one of my favorite photos I’ve ever taken.

    1. Dash’s will come later. Yours:

      “a canopied pontoon boat”

From the archives: Not a pontoon boat, but a couple of boats side by side in Marina Del Rey in 1998. This is bittersweet place for me, so publishing photos from there is a gift from the heart.

      1. I would love a boat like that … we go sailing on my Dad’s boat and Dash wears a little lifevest. My Dad bought it for him it looks cute on him, but mostly it makes me happy to know that he loves Dash enough to get him a lifevest. I am hoping that Dash’s says something like VW Hippie Bus… because I would like to pack up a camper and go out for a year driving all around the country to see things like The Weiner Dog Races in Wisconsin … etc …

    2. Dash:

      “complimentary wine and cheese”

I got lucky with my timing on this one. Although people almost never moved away from the free cheese tray so I could get it in the shot.

  2. ok, page 100, #5.

And, if you watch that YouTube video from the little SnapIt box that appears, the bassist totally looks like Nigel Tufnel from Spinal Tap.

    1. “chinchilla”

No one had chinchillas today. So… Will something from the archives do?

Ferret in Central Park, NYC, 1998
He’s just about to get in trouble with his walker here,
for going after a cigarette butt.

      1. Dan used to have a Ferret named ‘Bert.’ Apparently they’re insane about finding (and attempting to eat) garbage. I’ll show him that when he gets home – too cute!

        1. Dammit, Mark has been talking, hasn’t he? I KNEW we should have done that hypnosis/memory trick on him.

I mean, no. No, it’s not. It’s the ceiling of the Starbucks on Buffalo Speedway just off 59. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

    1. “six-lane freeways”

I’m sure those are great, unless you’re on the northbound side of Houston’s Southwest Freeway during rush hour.

(Loved standing on the overpass and taking these photos!)

    1. “scoots = dollars”

I’ve never heard dollars called scoots, though that is a definition in the Urban Dictionary. I can show you where way too many of my scoots go on a sweltering day:

        1. How did you find such clean one dollar bills to photograph? All the ones I got during the time in New Orleans were filthy!

          1. You were getting all those tourist dollar bills.

And Houston’s always been full of new money.

            I just cracked myself up.

    1. Better late than never!

      “cellophane”

This is not a photo, but a scan of an actual collage that I did in 1996. These are bits of fabric, thread, paper, ribbon, and sequins that I used on the AIDS Quilt panels I made for the Washington, D.C., display of the full NAMES Quilt that year. They are on blue cellophane and covered with clear cellophane. That red ribbon is a bit of the ribbon I got at the first Quilt exhibit I ever saw–in Houston in 1992.

      Lots of history there.

      1. I adore collage, adore the way “found objects” become assembled in random yet meaningful ways that transend their original purposes.

I had no idea you did collage! If you’re ever in the mood to post more, you’ve got a guaranteed viewer.
