I do remember having to leave the house to buy them, and the excitement of choosing one from among so many with my limited allowance. I’m including a clickable photo after the cut so you can see the title and Gene can see the sales sticker. I’m sure he remembers the store. Really, it’s awesome that iTunes only charges twenty-one cents more all these decades later.
have I heard that song? Who is that … HUH?!
I am shocked that you don’t know.
You can hear it by going to this link in Rob’s LJ.
NILSSON SCHMILSSON or WHIY IS EVERYBODY TALKING ABOUT HARRY EDWARD?
For almost everything you probably never wanted to know go to HARRY
I do indeed know that store. Was it the one in the Plaza or the one toward Oxford? LOL I used to LOVE to shop there. I bought 45s there also.
Oh, and I remember quite well when that song was popular. I bought his 1972 hit “Coconut” (probably at Mason’s)
The one in the Plaza. Long gone now, but it was THE giant discount store long before KMart or Wal-Mart appeared.
In the 60’s I used to shop at Kline’s in Clayton. It was basically your mom and pop toy and variety store. but it had THE RECORD BAR. The owner’s son used to work there on school breaks and vacations. You might have heard of him, his name was Kevin.
Also amazing, 30-years later Coca Cola bought the song to introduce Diet oke with Lime. It was the only reason I tried DC w/L, and low and behold I liked it.
Dang, thought I was getting the first post spot but Marika beat me by seconds!
HA! I’m like Speedy Gonzalez. “Marika Ricka Andelay! Andelay!”
You know what I liked about Nilsson? He was one ot the first beople to records the songs of Randy Newman (Nilsson Songs Newman), Van Dyke Parks and other up and coming talents.
BTW, I figured you’d have the 45 of Without You. I think I had all the LPs.
