I sometimes go to web sites that provide song lyrics people think they hear. I’ve had my own experience with misunderstood lyrics, although I can’t share any because I don’t want to embarrass myself can’t remember them right now (although I never thought Jimi Hendrix was saying, “‘Scuse me while I kiss this guy”).
I didn’t realize there was a term for this, mondegreen, which arose from a misunderstood Scottish ballad. Snopes.com provides some misunderstood lyrics to carols.
I see no one winged dove in there.
ROFL. It’s nothing without the dance.
Misunderstood lyrics
My personal favorite of my own…I always thought the Simple Minds were saying “Olives and Kiwi” instead of “Alive and Kicking” during that song. It made no sense, I know, but neither did the weird way they said something as simple as “Alive and Kicking.” Anyways, it still makes me laugh when I hear the song.
Have you noticed that sometimes when you find out the “real” words you like your own version better? I have almost stopped looking them up because of this reason – but my curiosity always gets the best of me! 😉

Re: Misunderstood lyrics
Yes! There’s a Fleetwood Mac lyric I sang incorrectly for nearly 30 years. Once I found out what it really was, I thought they should have written it the way I sang it. I just figured it was an Aries thing.
Olives and kiwi. Heh heh.
