There’s nothing like spending more than an hour writing a heartfelt e-mail to someone you know only through Live Journal that you don’t want to post, and then having it vanish as you hit SEND.
I hate Netfirms mail. Why do I always forget that it times out and won’t let me go back to what I was working on? WHY?
that makes me absolutely CRAZY.
i’ve gotten in the habit of copying most things before i hit send, just in case.
I always do that for a while after it happens, then I slack off. And pay for it.
Ouch! 🙁
Sometimes I think some of the best things I’ve ever written are some of those taken-to-the-ether variety of time-outs, crashes, and/or just plain lost e-mails. *sigh*
It’s like the fish that got away! No one ever believes you, but it’s true.
I’ve gotten to where I type almost everything in wordpad and then copy & paste it.
Unlike me, you have grasped the concept that until we learn from our mistakes, we are doomed to repeat them. As frustrating as it is with e-mail, it’s much worse when it’s several pages of fiction. Doh!
The worst is pictures. My husband messed with something he doesn’t understand and lost 1.5 years of pictures. Thank god for file recovery programs. Now I load them into the desktop and laptop before putting them to disk, so I have an extra backup.
