The last time I was working on my laptop at Hollywood Cafe, I got distracted by a movie they were showing, Raising Helen with Kate Hudson. Since I only saw bits and pieces of it but enjoyed what I did see, I asked Tim if he’d watch it with me, and he said yes, but only if I’d watch Little Black Book with him.
I loved “Little Black Book!” I expected it to be a typical romantic comedy, but it turned out to provoke some thought with smart writing. Brittany Murphy was not only really good, but two of my favorite actresses gave their usual fantastic performances–Holly Hunter and Kathy Bates. Add lots of music from Carly Simon–what’s not to love?
I have fond memories of “Little Black Book” from last January. I wandered from my sleeper to the lounge car on the Empire Builder one evening as we were crossing the mightly Montana Rockies into Idaho. The lounge car was nearly empty, the movie pleasant and the full moon outside was magnifyng the beauty of the rockies as we chugged around, over, between and through those awe inspiring mountains.
It created a quite pleasant association for me.
Ohhh, sounds wonderful. I’ve never traveled by train but always wanted to.
My favorite travel/movie association is of Legally Blonde, which they showed on the flight I took to NYC in October 2001, my first one after September 11. I’m not a good flyer anytime, but was even worse then. That movie took my mind off everything and allowed me to laugh. I’ll always be grateful to Reese Witherspoon. =)
I drive to Pensacola, FL with my family every summer. When I was younger we had one of those conversion vans with the TV in it; and of course watched movies the whole trip into Florida. One year as we were driving home (somewhere in LA) my dad, brother and I were watching Twister. About half way into the movie people were pulling off of I10 and looking out of their windows. Naturally we all looked out in the direction of their stares and saw a funnel cloud forming. We thought the coincidence was pretty sweet; but still told mom to “step on it.”
somewhere in LA
Does your LA mean Lower Alabama? Because if so, I never heard anyone BUT Alabamians say that. You just made me grin.
