Transport Thursday!

It was apparently Celebrate Ears at transport today. I offer you these.

Every week I’m dumbfounded by the animals people of Houston consider disposable. Our transport rescue has saved more than 29,000 of them since 2013, and with all the animal rescue groups here and the new ones now transporting animals out of Houston, maybe one day we can achieve our dream of being a “no kill” city.

Happy Independence Day

It’s been a very wet one in Houston, with Tom scooping a few gallons of water out of our back room and me working even though I’m not supposed to be. Bringing me to tears more than once today: messages from people all over the world on social media offering love and support for the USA. Sometimes it’s good to be reminded that people honor and see the best in us even when the worst in us is on glaring display every day.

I still have the audacity of hope. The flag has dried out and is waving gently now as the sun begins to set.

Transport Thursday!

I had to leave transport early so I could go to a memorial service for the husband of a dear person brought into my life by the rescue group. My heart is breaking for her and her family, and I’m grateful I was able to go and support her thanks to my colleague Ashley. Ash agreed to take over my camera and finish shooting photos of the remaining dogs and cats and get some group shots after I left.

There was a lot of sadness in the day, and it was punctuated by severe thunderstorms in the afternoon that had all the Houndstooth pack on edge. When I was finally able to sit down and upload the photos from my camera, I found this shot Ashley took. We were visited by players from a new major league rugby team at transport, the Houston Sabercats.

Y’all, I think I’m going to have to learn about rugby and start going to games.

Do you blame me?

Thank you, Ashley. Thank you, Sabercats, for your interest in the rescue group and the well-being of animals.
