Call me, call me any time (call me)

I still remember the first time I saw Debbie Harry and Blondie on TV. Regardless of what heights she achieved in the rock and roll pantheon, to me she’ll always be that adorably quirky girl who nearly tripped on her microphone cord while performing on Midnight Special in… Oh, it matters not what year. I think Lynne and I were something like two at the time (she was watching with me).

I got Mattel’s Debbie Harry Barbie for a steal on eBay because she didn’t arrive with her clothes or accessories. No biggie that she is sans pink vinyl dress. I’ll design a whole new look for her soon, I hope.

Day at the museum

Not to be outdone by Tim going to Houston’s Museum of Fine Arts to see an exhibit featuring paintings by Paul Cézanne, Edgar Degas, Vincent van Gogh, Édouard Manet, Claude Monet, Auguste Renoir, and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, among others, the Birthstone Beauties are checking out a 2011 work by an emerging artist.

Boo Hiss

Her clothes say, I’m sassier than Heidi Klum! But her face says, What do you mean there won’t be any Project Runway before fall? I need a name! I need FASHION!

Meanwhile, she’s posing in front of a painting I did in 2007. That one and four smaller paintings are now listed here. And there are three new paintings on One Word Art, as well. Becks needs to make some money to keep these dolls in fabric hounds in food.

Celebrity Rehab

In the days when I used to work outside my home, I would wonder why anyone who didn’t have to would be on the roads, particularly during rush hour. And when it rained–forget about it. So now when we have a dreary, rainy day like Houston is experiencing today, I do commuters and errand-runners a favor and stay home and out of their way. You’re welcome.

However, having a pot of soup simmering on the stove, a few warm canine bodies around me, and the sound of the rain outside makes me want to sleeeeeep. But I’ve been good. Lots of business-type stuff taken care of, then it was–SEWING HOUR! Sewing hour-plus, in fact.

Sometime last summer, when I was in the thrift store from hell, I looked into their bin o’ battered Barbies, and found a couple of celebrities. Today seemed like a good day for the two to get baths, shampoos, a blow dry, and some touching-up with the curling iron. Then I dug into a clean stack of worn socks that Tom donated a while back, went to the sewing machine, and VOILA! Celebrity rehab!

This is as far as I’m going with this

I promised a friend that if Auburn won the National Football Championship, I’d make Summer an outfit in their school colors. Here she is: orange cotton tank, blue crushed velvet bolero jacket and skirt, orange stockings, and blue and orange necklace, all made by me. The belt and boots are by Mattel. I believe this fulfills my promise of a nod to the Auburn Tigers.
