A photo probably explains it best:
And housekeeping, catching up on correspondence, dog wrangling, bookkeeping, a little painting (five new ones on One Word Art!), and some socializing.
That’s all.
Who goes there? Please leave comments so (An Aries Knows)!

Wishing you abundance in all things good in 2010.
ETA 2022: Sorry, the video I made that was embedded here was lost. =(
Before all this stuff gets put away for another year:
We didn’t do a Star Trek garland this year, after all the drama Tom endured putting it up last year. Instead, we used the small tree for the Star Trek ships and character ornaments. I first called it the Geek Tree, but I finally settled on the Birthday Tree, since Tom’s a Christmas baby. I put his birthday presents and cards under it as they came in. Every time I plug in the light cord, most of the ornaments talk to me. I’m so tired of hearing Janeway, but I never get tired of the Borg and Spock.
My 2009 Santa’s Workshop:
And some holiday windows in a nearby shop. He’s everywhere, he’s everywhere!
A very happy Christmas to you all. And boy, do I have photos and stories. Until I have time to post them, one of the best stories of this year’s holiday is right here.
It’s Christmas Eve, and you know what that means, right?
Now that most of my holiday cards have been mailed out and I’m receiving them (oh, I’m receiving such GOOD ones, too; I know a few little card elves who need e-mail), and now that almost all my shipping is done (NIGHTMARE! IN THE RAIN! TWO POST OFFICES!), I’ve been sort of indifferent about decorating.
When Tom got home from work Wednesday, he decided it was a good night to put up the tree and string the lights, a sort of pre-decorating activity. No definite plans yet for when we’ll hang ornaments, but whenever my Two Jew Crew, their mistress, Miss Sugar, and Lynne with Santa’s helpers, Sparky and Minute, want to give it a whirl–Thursday night? Friday night?–I’m game. There will be snacks. And probably Starbucks.
Wait; what? Your Jewish friends don’t help you decorate your Christmas tree? Maybe you should ask them! It’s a Compound holiday tradition, along with some others. Like digging Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus out of storage and setting up their workshop (photo to come).
And the annual photo of the new sleigh bell:
And, of course, a big party with notable guests such as:
It feels like my heart may be growing three sizes.
You know what makes me happy? Jingling bells. What you see on top of the happy book is a ring with tiny jingle bells attached ($4, Pier One). You know what makes everyone at The Compound happy? When I don’t wear the jingle bell ring. Bunch of grinches.
If you want something to make you happy, please comment with a page number between 1 and 611, and another number between 1 and 25, and I’ll jingle my way through the pages of this book for you.
Converse Chuck Taylor All-Stars…
Here’s a bonus button. This one is from Lynne’s collection, but I think I may have one like it deeply buried in my container o’ buttons.
I chose this button even though I’m not a big fan of pies (sorry, Agent Cooper) because Wednesday provided a spontaneous pie night with friends. On a whim, Tom called The Brides to see if their tight schedule allowed for dinner, and it did, as long as Lindsey could later use my kitchen for baking. So we had a raucous evening with Tom, Tim, Rhonda, Lindsey, me, Margot, Guinness, Rex, Pixie, Sugar, and Puddles–the puppy also known as Pixie’s Mini Me.
Later, while I sewed, the house filled with the aroma of baking. Lindsey was making pies in a jar, which involved a lot of cutting apples into cubes and some apple-cube eating (The bowl was right in front of me! I couldn’t help myself! There were plenty!). There were also a couple of side trips to the grocery store and Starbucks in there. And when Lindsey finally filled all the jars, there were enough apple cubes left over (SEE?) to fill a couple of ramekins. One of which is still in my kitchen, looking adorably edible.
More Thankgivingy stuff to come, but for now, HAPPY THANKSGIVING to everyone who celebrates it, and for those who don’t, just know I’m thankful that you’re part of my life.
