Merry Christmas from Houndstooth Hall!

However you choose to celebrate the season or whatever you call your holiday, whether you’re having a solitary day or spending any of it with friends or family of birth or of choice, though it may bring bittersweet memories as well as help you create new ones, I wish you the very best.

And a very happy birthday to Tom today. Here’s a snow photo from December 2009, of Tom walking Margot, Pixie, Rex, and Guinness. We’ve known, loved, and been loved by an abundance of good dogs through the years. They’ve all adored Tom, as do we all.

  1. My parents have been thinking about getting a puppy for their Shitzu for when they are away for most of the day.

      1. I’m not sure about how much she would like to be with other dogs. There was one other dog staying with my parents while it’s humans were away, and my parents said they had to be in separate rooms for the night, but I think the visiting dog wasn’t happy to be in a new place at that time. The Shitzu is probably about two or three years old now. But, the other day a neighbor went by with her much bigger dog and there was a lot of barking through the fence. The neighbor told me while talking also with Mom about the vandalism that has been going on that the dog was being protective and so not nice to strangers. So, I don’t have much other observations. My parents looked at a different rescue site for mass produced puppies and thought that it may also cost more for them now to have another dog than it used to before covid and inflation. So, I think Mom and I think their Shitzu should have another puppy or older dog, but it all may be too expensive. I guess they have to think some more.

        1. Yes, they are expensive. We’ve had a pricey year in that regard, but nothing like what some people pay for their animals’ healthcare.

We usually chose our pups after fostering them for a rescue. Jack, who doesn’t like people much, was the greatest ambassador to our foster dogs. Male or female, even bigger dogs–he welcomed them all and played with them. That can be a good way to find the right fit.

          1. My 2nd half flight had a layover for two hours, but it is so far delayed for an additional two hours. So, I’m having a grilled chicken and brie baguette while sitting next to a westie at a bar in an airport. It’s humans told me it gets to run around the outdoors with a Shitzu as well. We’ve had two westies before, so I agree we will need to see how the Shitzu behaves with others more first. My Dad really likes the idea of having another dog in the family now, especially when they are out of the house for a long day. So, they will need to think more on this.
