This is why it takes me so long. Some writers power through to get it all down and then go back and do their edits. Occasionally I want to try it that way, but it never works for me.
Maybe I’m too trained as an editor and proofreader. I edit, read, re-edit, and re-read constantly as I go. Maybe it’s also my experience as a teacher trained to correct errors and suggest how to polish writing.
I learned the hard way this is why beta readers don’t work for me. By the time I send pages, I’ve already started altering them.

Clippy just noticed you keep changing your mind and so quit, became a rotary phone, and carried on to lead an army of British home appliances in a revolution take over the world’s rulers.

I’ve never seen a Danger Mouse cartoon, but it’s hard for me to fathom that the much maligned and sometimes despised Clippy ever became a leader. Maybe changing his appearance to a rotary phone was a disguise that helped him with this.

But the rotary phone in the cartoon is more like a red version of the one in the back left corner. These look like they’re an army of touch-tone push-button phones in disguise plotting to oust Clippy who is plotting to oust humanity and take over the world. Unfortunately, this is all a Matrix plot.
