Mood: Monday

I was looking for something that was not this at all when I found this.

It made me laugh so hard, and if you’ve ever loved a dog, you know why. No one can be more aggrieved than a dog who feels wronged about food.

Still, I think as humans we experience feelings similar to this. We probably all have some How can you say you love me, if/when… lines we draw in the sand, wherein a person who professes to love us, or would say they love us when asked, does or believes or chooses things that are so antithetical, even potentially harmful, to who we are that we wonder, DO you love me? Really? I’m not even sure how we know each other.

Just a little something for Monday rumination.

Also: Give your dog a treat before s/he wastes away. Or whatever animal in your household feels food-denied at the moment.

  1. When it comes to love, I really do think that actions speak louder than words. ‘Love’ is bandied around far too often, to the point that it has lost its potency

    1. I once had a friend who accused me of doing this. “You love EVERYthing,” she once said, and recited a list of things I said I love. I decided her criticism wasn’t going to make me censor myself because I don’t love a thing the way I love a living being. Thus I’m probably guilty of overusing the word “love,” but maybe a redeeming thing is that I don’t casually say “I love you” to a person. When I say it, I mean it, and that love is solid.

One way I have censored myself is that over time, saying I hate anything has decreased, and I almost never say I hate a person. It’s so rare that if it happens, I immediately qualify it with a disclaimer.

      1. My comment on the overuse of ‘love’ was more in relation to people. I used to know someone back home who was famous for telling people she barely knew that she loved them. I think people also use ‘friend’ very loosely. ‘Acquaintance’ is often more applicable. I guess we all hold very different definitions.

I very rarely claim to hate anyone too. I more often use ‘dislike’ or ‘loathe’. I think ‘hate’ is a very strong word and to hate someone uses too much energy.

        1. Oh, yeah, that’s offputting when someone I barely know says “I love you.” Ugh.

Ha, Facebook has tainted the concept of “friends” for all time.
