Tiny Tuesday!

I hope this is accurate. My memory sometimes plays tricks on me. Back in the 1970s, Lynne’s mother Elnora, and Lynne’s sister Liz (and maybe Lynne) had firing and painting ceramics as a hobby they enjoyed together. One year, Elnora gave Lynne a Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus workshop set she painted just for her.

As I got older, I’d become less of a Christmas person, but Lynne and Liz loved the holidays. When Elnora died in 1978, they decided I needed to learn how to better celebrate Christmas. So Liz made me a Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus workshop set like Lynne’s. I’ve been displaying it and adding to it almost every Christmas since. Even years we haven’t decorated for Christmas, I do try to put out the workshop because it’s full of good memories of a family I loved and who loved me.

I also know that Lynne is putting hers out and reliving some of those same memories. It connects us whether or not we’re living in the same place or far apart.

One of the critters I added in either 1979 or 1980 is this angelic little reindeer. He usually sits near Santa.

I was at my favorite antique mall and though I wasn’t looking for them, I spotted these salt and pepper shakers. I couldn’t resist them.

Now my little boy has some older siblings.

They’ve joined him in the workshop.

I’m pretty sure my heart grew at least a couple of sizes.

  1. i was not a part of their ceramics hobby at that time. i was off being a wild person i am sure. I know my workshop is dated 1974. it must have been a Christmas gift to me and that guy i was married to then… maybe something my mother did to occupy her time in the evenings. I wish she had kept it up…

The other things (Santa cookie jar, large “candle” with Santa & reindeer) I have from my sister are not dated, but I think they are all from the same time. If I was savvy i could post pictures of them…
