I was a little disappointed when the challenge for the first episode of Season 6 of Project Runway was a red carpet look that showed innovation and the designer’s point of view. The last real design I did for Summer was a red carpet dress for the Oscars. Tim suggested that I visualize her at a much different awards show, and I realized that it was time to add a little bit of rock and roll to Summer’s look. So I took down her hair, grabbed some leather and tulle…

I think that you have stepped out of your comfort zone on this one, and WOW you impress! Summer is all rockin’ roll. I like the leather jewelry and the see through feel. She manages to be a edgy and classic! I think that perhaps the tulle on the waste is a smidge too much, but that is personal taste on my part – gorgeous dress … you did a smashing job.

Awesome for the runway, Becky. The entire look flows beautifully. However, what’s it gonna look like after she gets out of the limo? Or did she walk to the event? Wait…the tulle over-skirt attaches after she exits the vehicle, right? So, at the after-party, she’ll jump onto a table, dashingly separate the skirt from her mini, then dance the night away.

Thanks, Meesh! Tulle is very forgiving when you only weigh a few ounces and you get transported everywhere by a human servant. My only experience with this, of course, may be after cremation. 😉

How hard was that croc to work with? Is it ironable?

It is easy to work with–very soft and pliable, not tough on needles. The more you work with it, the better it looks (unlike most fabrics). I don’t know if it’s ironable because I didn’t have to iron it. I’m betting no, but it’s probably not necessary.

You’ve got a catalog of red carpet looks now. I remember that peridot-green gown you did, the full-skirted one with the bead detailing. And your Academy Awards dress in lace. Now this. We need a Greatest Hits of the Red Carpet show of your dresses, all next to each other.
