Actually I am liking our new traditions … Christmas eve we have pizza for dinner and open our gifts … it’s very scaled back and we will watch a movie and play a viscious game of cards …. Christmas day we have an early dinner roast and knodel … exchange gifts with friends … all homemade … and then another killer game of rummy.
Cards would be one tradition my sister would love to do away with!
Aside from the cliche “holiday traditions” and the Insane Retail BlackmailTM 🙂 that goes with them, I’ve been trying to bring back afternoon Tea, as close to 4 PM local time as possible. In the mornings, my parents try to out-wit each other by playing Othello. The dogs traditionally (or ritually) chase (protect us from) squirrels and stray cats. I’d include Gay PRIDE, but I lumped that in with “holiday traditions.”
Afternoon tea and a short midday siesta are traditions I wish we’d borrow from other countries!
I bake holiday stollens at Christimas for the family.
And I’m sure they love you for it!
Just being together at Christmas. I could never not spend Christmas with my folks.
I’m grateful for all the memories I have of those times.
