Just received:
Dear Becky,
only a moment ago I have read your book “A Coventry Christmas” in german. It is the best book which I ever had read in all my life time. I love Keelie. On every page of the book I thought you write about me.
Keep up the good work!
This is my first e-mail from someone who’s read the German-language edition. Having someone read something I wrote and can’t read is a new experience for me. I think I owe a huge debt of gratitude to the translator, Christine Blum.
That is SO freaking exciting!
Other than actually writing a book and getting it published, nice e-mails are the best.
cool, Becky… that must be some good sugar glaze! 🙂
WTF is this user pic??
Thanks!
Oh becks, that is so cool! But then I’m not surprised, I loved it just as much.
Thank you. =)
Thanks for sharing such a cool experience! Living vicariously through you has its ups. : )
You’re welcome. I’m glad. =)
That’s great! “Zucker kuss”!
Thank you. It made my day.
That’s really neat!
Thank you. =)
VERY COOL!!
Thanks! =)
Wow!
Why does everything in German sound like some kind of
large, extra-sweet pastry? Is it all those z’s???
In this case, according to Tim and Marika, the title translates to “cinnamon stars with sugar glaze,” which is apparently a delicious Christmas cookie. Maybe we should demand proof, i.e., Marika baking some for all of us.
Yes! I want that!!!
From what little German Imbedded in my little old granny whose grandparent immigrated from the Black Forest in the first half of the 19th century I knew Zuker Kuss was a kiss with sugar. Because being a cute kid, I got a ton of them. But I had to resort to Babel Fish to figure out the rest, and ended up totally confused with zimt asterisks kiss with sugar. So I tried translating cinnamon cookies with sugar kiss and I got Zimtsterne mit zucker kuss — in other words a cinnamon cookie with sugar sprinkles. But no matter how you translate it, it’s a great honor to know your writing can touch someone in a language other than your own. I guess a zimtsterne would be something like a snickerdoodle.
How exciting!!
It definitely made my day. =)
What a great compliment.
I love the way foreigners write English…it’s so endearing.
Especially when they’re saying nice things. =)
That really is an awesome e-mail to receive!
It’s thrilling news to have a translation of a book, but to receive such a review must be doubling your joy! Congratulations!
Thank you very much. =)
