Annual World AIDS Day Luncheon -11:30am, The Corinthian 201 Main Street, Houston, TX 77002. The luncheon, chaired by Lisa Holthouse and Lucinda Loya, encourages public awareness and support for programs that assist those living with HIV/AIDS. AFH has been a leader in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Houston for 25 years. To commemorate this Silver Anniversary, the luncheon will honor and celebrate the lives of the men, women, and children living with HIV/AIDS. Additionally, the Shelby Hodge Vision Award will be presented to 25 outstanding individuals who have had a considerable effect on AFH, individuals who have impacted HIV/AIDS within Houston , or those who have positively influenced HIV/AIDS work globally. 26th Annual World AIDS Day Memorial and Celebration of Life – Noon -3:00pm. The Houston Department of Health and Human Services, in partnership with Texas Southern University (TSU), local HIV service providers, faith-based organizations and community shareholders. The event will take on the TSU campus. This year’s event will have speeches from local, state and federal public officials with the keynote speech delivered by an openly positive HIV person. Memorial activities include “A Wall of Remembrance,” a names drop and a pastoral pledge. The event will also have musical performances by several local and national recording artists such as Kyle Turner, Chamillionaires, J Xavier, Mike Jones and others. Illumination Project -Performance – 8:00pm. The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, in conjunction with Hope Stone Inc., presents The Illumination Project 2007. The sixth annual event will take place in Zilkha Hall at 8:00 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2007 – World AIDS Day. This year’s beneficiaries include the Baylor International Pediatric AIDS Initiative and Bering Omega Community Services. A collaborative effort, The Illumination Project celebrates life, mourns loss and promises hope through the performing arts. A poignant and inspiring evening, The Illumination Project will feature the brightest performers from the Bayou City’s arts community and beyond, including: soloist Kelly Myernick of the Houston Ballet; New York City dance company, The Bang Group; as well as the voguing talents of six members of the House of Ninja, also from New York. Others scheduled to perform include Philip Lehl of TUTS; vocalist Ana Trevino Godfrey, Two Star Symphony, Andee Scott of Austin, TX and Hope Stone Dance performing live with the Houston Boy Choir. Each of these groups is donating their time, energy and incredible talents. A moving candle lighting ceremony will conclude the performance. St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church (5102 Dabney) will hold its annual World AIDS Day Mass of Remembrance on December 1, 11 a.m. The celebrant is Archbishop Cardinal DiNardo, recently appointed a cardinal by Pope Benedict XVI. The service is co-sponsored by Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston and United Way of Greater Houston.

Annual “Lights of Love” Tree decorating-The Empire of the Royale Sovereign and Imperial Court of the Single Star (E.R.S.I.C.S.S.) 7:00pm. During the night a Christmas tree is decorated with the names of people we have lost in the past who may have had HIV/AIDS or passed away from a complication of it.
